backupsuffix and extensions of files

Hi,
it is posible to use a backupsuffix option to append the version number
just before the extension of the file?

For example, this file:
my file.doc

Should have this backups files:
my file(1).doc
my file(2).doc

Thanks
Oliver

Version 2.32.52 on XP SP2 gives "system cannot execute the specifed program"

Hi

I'm running the text version of UNISON 2.32.52 which I downloaded from
http://alan.petitepomme.net/unison/index.html on several PCs running XP Pro SP3. On each PC I have
installed the VC++ redistributable also referenced on the above page and with that it runs without problems.

I also have one PC running XP Pro SP 2 which I cannot upgrade to SP3. Again I have installed the VC++
redistributable, but on this PC it doesn't run - I get just the message:

  C:>unison.exe -version
The system cannot execute the specified program.

I'm assuming that there's something else that comes with SP3 that my SP2 system is missing, but I don't know
how to go about finding what it might be, because the error message doesnt give any clues. Can anyone advise
how I can go about solving this problem?

Thanks

Steve

OK, the DLLs all seem to be present or not required (thanks Karl for confirming that they are the same as yours).

So I tried profiling the app in Dependency Walker, and here's the output ...

I know this is probably a very ugly method, but I have very explicit
error message running an app with "wine" on linux.

Last time it shows me that I have problem with MS CRT not being the good
version...

If you give me a link where I can download your compiled program, I can
try it for you...

What's the most efficient way to sync subset spokes with a comprehensive hub?

Hi

I have a challenge for which I'm seeking the most elegant/efficient solution. I will try to explain it here -
I hope it's clear ...

I have a hub system that contains several folders in the sync root. I also have several spoke systems that
each contain different subsets of those same folders in their roots. I want to bidriectionally sync each
spoke with the hub, but I only want to sync those folders that already exist on each spoke, i.e. I dont want to
bring everything on the hub down to each spoke.

I think I can do this by explicitly specifying each folders on each spoke as a root and running multiple
syncs. But connection delays make multiple syncs slower than a single sync, plus I need to keep track of
which folders are on each spoke and remember to change what I sync whenever I change the folders I'm hosting
on that spoke.

Slightly better, I think I can also do this with a single sync from each spoke by specifying the path
directive for each folder on that spoke. That avoids the overhead of multiple syncs, however, I will still
need to maintain spoke-specific path directives according to whatever folders exist on each spoke.

Does anyone know if there is a lower maintenance way to do this? i.e. to tell a spoke to bidirectionally sync
only the contents of the folders it is hosting, but not to bring down other folders from the root, without
explicitly naming/maintaining the spoke specific list of folders to sync?

Unfortunately I cannot think of a better solution than using path directives.

You could try playing with symbolic links and follow directives (keeping in the hub some roots "spoke1", "spoke2" with links with what you want to sync), but it would still require to add links when you add folders on the root, and if a folder is added on a spoke it would end up in its "spoke" directory as a folder in the hub.

... Or you could write a little script that has a look at which
folders are present on the client and generates the appropriate -path
directives on the fly...

Re: FW: Version 2.32.52 on XP SP2 gives "system cannot execute the specifed program"

This morning I tried my running UNISON 2.32.52 again with the intention of running the Sysinternals
filemon tool to see what files the exe was trying to locate, and suddenly, before I got that far, I found that
UNISON 2.32.52 is now working!

I havent rebooted my PC it since last time I tried running UNISON, so I searched for any files modified in the
last 24 hours that could explain this, and whilst I could find nothing significant that changed, I did
found some log files that indicate that some patching/installs have been applied (this is a PC that I use
but don't fully administer).

NDP35SP1-KB958484-x86.exe.log-Msi0.txt
NDP35SP1-KB958484-x86.exe.log.html
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 with SP1-MultiPgmInstaller.Log
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 with SP1 deploy.LOG
Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 deploy.LOG
MS_Patch_KB933873.log
MS_IE7_Hotfix_KB933873.log
MS IE7 Hotfix KB933873 deploy.LOG
MS_IE7_Patch_KB972260.log
MS IE7 Patch 200907 KB972260 deploy.LOG

So far as I can tell most of these are not actually installed yet - they will probably only complete
installation on the next reboot. So whilst I don't have any way to know exactly what was causing the
problem, I can only assume that the solution is due to the partial installation of one of these patches/installs.

It's annoying that I didnt get a chance first to run filemon to find what was missing, but thanks anyway to
those who offered assistance.

Re: bug with unison and encfs

Sounds like this filesystem is behaving differently from standard
Posix conventions. If you move a file, does its modtime get bumped?
