Re: One-way file sync not deleting files

I don't see what's wrong here, but you ought to be able to tell more
by adding "-debug all" to the command line and having a look at the
resulting trace.

Re: One-way file sync not deleting files

For what it's worth, I'm running 2.13.16 (both sides). Windows 2000
on both sides. Socket mode on LAN.

I tried adding the "-debug all". First I created an empty text file
"x.txt" on my notebook. Then I ran my normal unison profile, but I
added "-debug all >output.txt 2>&1" to the command line.

x.txt appeared as expected on the desktop and I saw several references
to x.txt in the debug output file.

Next I deleted x.txt from my notebook. I reran unison again with
debug. The file stayed on the desktop and I couldn't find any
reference to "x.txt" in the debug file (I searched via Notepad).

Am I misinterpretting the "force" feature? (one-way synchronize)

UNISON on Windows - DLL problem

Hello,

I am trying to get unison-2.24.6-win-gtk2.exe to work and followed
instructions in IMPORTANT.html to update the PATH. However, I keep
getting the message that the GTK DLLs are missing. I have GAIM installed.

Any ideas? Why can't unison not be compiled with the DLLs included?

Nick

Looks like it got stuck at my ISP, thank you for your response,

Here is a semi-official response. I would like to make it clear that
Richard is not speaking for Demon or Yahoo, just saying what he has
seen. He does have considerable authority in these matters though. It
appears Yahoo fu^W messed up.

Does Unison abort an update if some of the files are in use?

Does Unison abort an update if some of the files are in use?

I am running Eclipse which is a fairly large installation, but Unison
seems to fail when I am using Eclipse as it is running.

Failed: The file M:/eclipse/configuration/org.eclipse.update/last.config.stamp
has been modified during synchronization: transfer aborted
 59% 90:58 ETAFailed [eclipse]: The file M:/eclipse/configuration/org.eclipse.u
pdate/last.config.stamp
has been modified during synchronization: transfer aborted
UNISON finished propagating changes at 20:52:30 on 01 Oct 2006

Saving synchronizer state
Synchronization incomplete (0 items transferred, 0 skipped, 1 failure)
  failed: eclipse

Is there some setting that will allow it to continue running even if
it detects that some files are in use or have been changed?

It will be very restrictive if the computer has to be idle before it
can do any updates.

Frank

Are you getting any error? If so, what does it look like?

Well, I figured out I needed to run unison /Users/jamesfishwick/Sites/HMSandbox/video_concepts/ //Volumes/docs/accounting/video_concepts -force /Users/jamesfishwick/Sites/HMSandbox/video_concepts/
to sync over Samba. Unison churns through the replicas, and I'm given the multitude of [f] prompts.

Now I'm getting insane messages like:

0%  577:42 ETAFailed [financial_managerial/data/qtiflash_1_chap22sec1_static_q1.xml]: Failed to set permissions of file /Volumes/docs/accounting/video_concepts/financial_managerial/data/qtiflash_1_chap22sec1_static_q1.xml to ???r??rw?: the permissions was set to ???-??--? instead

Is unison doing anything?

Like I mentioned before, in my earlier attempts to sync using rsync and unison, I noticed a lot of modification dates and permissions got mangled. I should have (and am being told that I have) drwx------ on the remote folder.

The best way (to my opinion) to use Unison is through a ssh
connection, but samba might work if the volume is already mounted and
shown in the /Volumes directory.

I think Unison tries to synchronize permissions by default. If you
don't want that (and I also think permissions are troublesome under
Samba), you should set the "perms" variable in your profile to 0 or
call unison with "-perms 0".
