Connection fails with client and server in different LANs

Ccomputers A and B are in different LANs.
I have forwarded ports 5800 & 5900 in both routers
I activate viewer on computer A - enter password - see "Client 
initialization message sent."
After a while I get "Connection closed."

What am I doinig wrong - how do I diagnose this?

I activate viewer on computer B - enter password - and it works.

When I open the screen to my remote computer, the computer name (My
Computer|Properties|Computer Name)  shows up in the title bar

TightVNC being VERY slow on a Win7 box

I often need to get to my home machine from other places, so it's 
running the latest TightVNC server.
This is a Win7 box, with dual 1920x1200 displays on a  NVIDIA GeForce 
7300 SE/7200 GS.
When I tightVNC into this machine, it's slow.  REALLY REALLY slow.  Even 
when I'm just down the hall on a 100baseT network.
Several seconds for a screen update of any kind.
When I'm working remotely, it often just sits and does nothing for 20 or 
30 seconds.
It can take 20 seconds to respond to catch up to me typing 20 characters.

Is there anything I can do to make this useable?

This may not be a tightVNC problem.  It could be a network problem.

If, from the windows box, you run ping -t theotherbox, do you have any
packet loss?

Is the windows box properly configured with DNS servers?  It could be
something is trying to look up the remote host in DNS and it's timing
out, I've seen stuff like this slow stuff down, not sure if this would
slow tightVNC down but worth throwing out.

Do you have some anti-virus/firewall getting in the way?  I've seen
windows firewalls throttle stuff back and cause packet loss which
wreaks havoc on connections without actually disconnecting them.

In cases like this, WireShark is your friend.  Set up a trace and try
to follow the tcp protocol exchanges and see that nothing is getting
dropped on the floor.

It could even be a firewall problem on the client side, so don't
ignore that possibility.
