Hi

View-only?

Hi everyone,

I am relatively new to TightVNC but I have had it running well for over a month. However for some reason the last few days when I connect (same location I always connect form - my office) I can view and move the curcor but not actually interaqct with anything (cannot open windows, move stuff around etc). Its almost as if I am in view only mode. AFAIK nothing has changed on my system, router etc.

Any idea how to go about fixing this?

Thanks :)

Re: View-only?

Shaun,

What is your host/server-side OS? Client side OS?

Do you have the same password assigned for both "view only" and normal modes on the server/host side?

Same version running at both ends?

Re: View-only?

Server is Vista Home and viewer is XP Pro. Different passwords (tried both of them)

I now have an updated version here on the viewer but only since this afternoon. I also tried some otehr viewing clients (ultraVMNC etc) and get the same result so it seems like a server side issue.

I used to also view via androidVNC (on my cell) but that too stopped working - it connects but just displays a black screen.

Hello All,,,,,

A few days after I posted this I started making changes to the SERVER and the VIEWER.

I have no idea what I had changed but this stuff is now working as expected (TightVNC 1.3.10).

And, it seems that the recent filling of SUBJECT: VIEW ONLY by Shaun Stephenson is very close to what I had observed.

Hello TightVNC mailing list users,,,:) :)

Searched the Internet (GOOGLE) for many phrases related to the following with no luck.

TightVNC version 1.3.10 was downloaded to three W98SE systems all with plenty of free disk and max RAM. Two of these computers are connected locally on a LAN using a NETOPIA DSL ROUTER/GATEWAY/WIRELESS modem connected to ATT.NET and the third is a computer at home connected to a Westell DSL2+ROUTER connected to ATT.NET.

The systems (TightVNC SERVER and VIEWER) work as expected when used between the two computers on the LAN.

The computer at home runs W98SE has the SERVER running with default settings and a PASSWORD. The home Westell DSL modem has been set to PORT FORWARD the 5900 and 5800 port records to the IP of the home computer.

The Viewer on the other side of town can connect to the home Server and the Viewer will display the expected DESKTOP screen that exists at the home computer.

But, when a selection is made at the Viewer computer on the DESKTOP display of the home computer nothing happens.

Also, it was noticed that the clock in the Viewers display of the home DESKTOP SYSTRAY continues to update with the time on the home computer desktop.

Based on the Server log file at the home computer, it seems data of selections made at the Viewer are being recorded at the home Server log file but nothing is happening at the Viewer when these selections are made on the Viewer display of the home DESKTOP (MY Computer, My Documents,,,etc.)

Any one with this experience and any advice will be appreciated.

THANKS for your time, help, and advice!!!!

Jerry

Hello Shaun,,,,,

Also, a few sessions ( a day or so) ago I had a problem with the SERVER at home. It was not accepting
the VIEWER attempt to connect (password request etc,,,,,) The last thing I did to get it working was
to power off then on the DSL modem at home. Then I could connect using the VIEWER from the office.

Just guessing, but this looks like the HOME DSL modem lost the ability to PORT FORWARD the

these had not changed.
