Re: Tight VNC 1.29

Hello,

Hi Claudio and good

Thank you kindly for your help.

Can you explain me those options mean?

The "VNC server" open a "query console" asking if the user want to accept or not
the VNC viewer connection request (with a timeout of 5 second). If the user don't give any
answer, during the timeout time, the system consider the "accept option". Is also possible to
accept a VNC viewer connection without a password (last option).

and in the following - what does it mean when one ticks - "allow loopback connection"

The possibility to link to itself, that is to "127.0.0.1" (necessary for a secure
connection as VNC over SSH).

One more quick question: In case I want to update our version to v1.3.10 do we need to
uninstall 1.2.9 and than re-install 1.3.10?

If we need to uninstall 1.2.9 - how do we do it? Should we use - add/remove programs
from our control panel?

On my experience, isn't necessary to uninstall the previous version, but for
Windows is always a good practice uninstall the previous version. To uninstall you have to
compulsorily use "add/remover programs" from your control panel (on my ver. 1.3.9 is the
only option).

Thanks again for all your help

I figured out that I could disable the "Alt-tab" in my window manager
and it passes to the VNC.

No screen refresh using TightVNC client on XP to Vine Server server on OS X

I have a Vine Server (aka OSXvnc) server running on my iMac (OSX
10.5.6) at home and have been trying to use the TightVNC client
(1.3.10) from my Windows XP SP3 machine at work. After connecting
all *appears* to be OK, the screen is displayed and, for the
first few seconds or so everything seems to work as one would
expect (if a little slowly). However, after those initial 10-15
seconds the display simply stops refreshing. The only way to get
the screen to update again is by requesting a manual refresh.
After such a refresh I sometimes get a few more seconds where
everything works again but very soon the screen again stops
refreshing.

I have no problems using the Jaadu VNC client for iPhone and have
just tried the RealVNC free Windows client which also works with
no issues.

FWIW I'm connecting via an SSH tunnel using corkscrew to get past
the office proxy/firewall, but that shouldn't make a difference
(RealVNC works fine using this setup). I'm using the Low Bandwith
settings and have tried playing around with the encoding options
but to no avail.

If I could get TightVNC to work I'd prefer to use it over RealVNC
because of the screen scaling which RealVNC doesn't have (my iMac
desktop is significantly larger than my office desktop).

Regards,
Michael.

tightvncserver not working right in my Ubuntu Jaunty/Dell M6400

I use Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty on my Dell Precision M6400 laptop, and want to use this laptop as a server for a remote
desktop. I have tried using tightvncserver as well as vinagre, but the same problem arises regardless of
which I use: the remote desktop can initiate a connection to my laptop, request permission, and achieve a
connection. And the image on my laptop's screen immediately appears on the remote desktop's monitor-- as
it should. But that initial image which gets transmitted, gets immediately fixated on the remote moniter
and does not continue to update as the image on my laptop changes. Whatever the first image was, that is all
that gets transmitted.

The odd thing is that if I move the cursor on my laptop screen, the remove desktop will see my cursor moving
around. But if I open and close any applications, or do anything at all on my laptop screen, nothing of that
is visible to the remote desktop except that the cursor itself is moving. So, the very first image which got
transmitted is all that continues to be visible to the remote desktop-- plus it can see my cursor moving around.

My laptop can, however, work just fine as the remote desktop with xtightvncviewer (or Vinagre) and recieve
images from the desktop of any other computer. But any other computer which tries to connect as the remote
desktop to my laptop, will get only one fixed image.

I have Ubuntu 9.04 on another computer, and the remote desktop server is working fine on that one. But on my
laptop it is not working. Any ideas on what the problem is, or how I can trouble-shoot this?

Thanks,
Swarup

Left-handed mouse buttons getting flipped

I use xtightvncviewer to connect from my work Ubuntu workstation to my
home Ubuntu workstation. On both machines I use a left-handed mouse.
After upgrading to Ubuntu 9.04, though, clicking over VNC flips the
mouse buttons (as if I were using a right-handed mouse).

If I switch to a right-handed mouse on the client machine, then I get
left-handed mouse behavior in the VNC window, but then things are
flipped on the local machine. I can also switch to a right-handed mouse
on the remote, which makes everything respond as expected, but this
switching is tedious.

Anybody know what's up with this change in behavior? Ubuntu 9.04 uses
xtightvncviewer 1.3.9 and vino 2.26.1. Thanks in advance.

(unknown)

Hello,

I would like to know how can I set up tightvncserver to share the primary desktop (the one I see if locally
sitting in front of the monitor) on a Xubuntu machine.

I have tried setting the port to :5900 but I still get a separate virtual desktop.

Any help will be much appreciated,
Thanks
JG

RE:

The TightVNC server always opens a new session. It cannot do what you
want. I have set up X11vnc as the server on Ubuntu 7.10 to share the
current session. It works well with the TightVNC viewer.

Re:

I agree with x11vnc. I use it at work on my linux box. It allows me to
VNC into it from home (windows xp) and work on desktop ":0" instead of a
new one (aka new session or desktop ":1"). I use tightvnc viewer and
x11vnc. The only downside is that if anyone passes by my cube and my
monitor is on or turns on my monitor then they can see what I am doing.
My solution is simple, turn off my monitor when I know I am going to be
working from home.

No Video

Hi,

I have configured a connection from a windows Vista PC to a CCTV DVR recorder running windows XP embedded. I can connect fine and can see the program that contains the grid to show the image(s) from the CCTV cameras however none of the video images are coming across.

The Vista machine is a powerful one with ATI HT2400 video cards Quad core processor and GB lan card.

Any Idea why the video is not showing?
