Problem connecting with tightvnc

I have installed the server and client on my machine, which is at my home behind a router. I have opened a hole
in the router for port 5900 and 5800 TCP to my computer.

I have installed the server and client on my mother's machine, which is directly connected to the internet
with no router or firewall. (Yes, I understand the problem here and am working to fix it).

I have gone to http://whatismyipaddress.com/ to get my IP address, and so has my mother.

If I am running the server, and she runs the viewer, she types in my address and she can connect to me and see my
screen fine.

But if SHE runs the server, and I run the client, I am unable to connect. I just get Status: connection
initiated, followed by "Failed to connect to server (IP address)".

Any ideas?

I also tried a listening connection and it didn't work either.

Re: Problem connecting with tightvnc

is your mom on vista?

for the listening connection, a reverse connection?, you need to have port 5500 opened.
you have listen loaded - your mom executes: winvnc.exe -connect <your_ip_address>

Re: Problem connecting with tightvnc

I solved the problem.

Turns out my Mom's ISP did have half a brain and they did not hook up her computer to a raw DSL modem but did have a
firewall upstream of the computer. So the problem was of course, blocked ports. What a disaster though
trying to walk her through changing the router settings? Finally, after having her pour over the router
she was able to tell me the make and model number and I was able to google and figure out how to do port
forwarding on her router. Prior to this we had spent hours with her trying to talk me through what she was
seeing and we were in the totally wrong place.

Finally I got her ports forwarded and now I have VNC access to her computer.

Domain Connection Problem

Hi There,

I have noticed with some of my network PCs that if I connect and logon to the local account it works fine but if I connect and logon to the domain account  I get the message connection closed and I cannot reconnect un less I log them off remotely.

Any Ideas?

Connect to VNC fine but, NO mouse/keyboard input accepted

I am running a Dell Dimension 2400 with XP Home Edition SP3. 1gb RAM and 2.2 GHz processor.

I connect to my desired computer and am able to view the target computer just fine, with proper refesh rate as well, yet the remote mouse, and seemingly, remote keyboard do not respond/react with the target interface. What could I be doing incorrect?
            Some Ideas:
      1) It could be that I'm running it from a server and not a home computer and I'm missing a setting and/or driver?
      2) I have to open up a port somewhere in Windows Firewall?

I have been able to successfully run TightVNC server on various other machines accessing them both from inside the home network and outside of it, both with the TightVNC Viewer and using HTTP protocol. I have managed to successfully configur multiple computers to be accessed from behind the same router ["...at long last!!!"]. I even encountered an issue with the mouse not mirroring and fixed it with the Mirage Mirror Driver. I originally assumed the mouse/keyboard input issue would again be solved by the Mirage Mirror Driver, but no luck.

What am I missing?

Re: Connect to VNC fine but, NO mouse/keyboard input accepted

are you saying that when you connect to a host - keyboard and mouse does not function?

Is it possible that you are connecting to the host using the view-only password?

Good luck, you will need it! In the mean time, you might want to study
