TightVNC V1.3.8 Port Change doesn't hold - XP SP2

Hi All,

I am using V1.3.8 and when setting port in options to 4900 and 4800 and use the Apply button it works okay.

However, when I then click on the Okay button the settings are lost and returned to the default 5900 and 5800

Anyone else had this problem and found a fix as I really need to use an alternative port to 5900 and 5800 as I
have two computers behind a router and one is using 5900 WinVNC and I was wanting to use 4900 for TightVNC.

I suppose I could try 5901 or something higher for the second pc.

Regards.

John

Re: TightVNC V1.3.8 Port Change doesn't hold - XP SP2

I have had similar problems with the password. May not be related, but try this. Go to Start->Programs->TightVNC->Administration->Show Default Settings and make sure your ports are set there as well.

RE: TightVNC V1.3.8 Port Change doesn't hold - XP SP2

Thanks Brian it worked a treat.

Strange how the two methods don't work the same.

The presentations for both Properties and Administration Default Settings look exactly the same.

I guess there could be a reason why the properties one only temporarily maintains the port setting over the
Administration Default Settings but it certainly fazes one whom does not know.

Hi,

I'm using tightvnc version 1.2.9-21. I have a problem starting

RE: TightVNC V1.3.8 Port Change doesn't hold - XP SP2

Hello,

I am new to the VNC forum and recently received your emails. Please allow me to ask a question concerning the passwords. They do not seem to work as I expected, and from your comments, I inferred that you may have been having the same issue, which is that the passwords do not seem to "stick". Will you please direct me to where I can learn more about this?

thank you,
Terry Ford

Re: TightVNC V1.3.8 Port Change doesn't hold - XP SP2

Perhaps someone else can shed some light on this. The only thing I have found that works most of the time is what I mentioned earlier. Go to Start->Programs->TightVNC->Administration->Show Default Settings and set the password there as well as by clicking on the running icon.

I believe that VNC probably tries to store passwords based on the logged in user rather than just a single password for the entire machine. The result of this is that if there is no one logged in, it falls back to the default password you must set through the method I mentioned above. I'm just guessing though, hopefully someone else can confirm this.

Problem with tightvnc

Hello,
I have a problem, tvnc refuses to connect. I am behind a router, and I have configured it properly to forward ports 5800 5500 & 5900. My ip is static, I disabled ms firewall, and checked using www.WhatsMyIP.org/ports and it says that these ports are open (besides 5500 which said it was refused by server, but wasnt timed out). what can I do? why wont it connect? which part of the RTFM did I miss... :)

Thanks,
Shlomi

p.s
It does connect when i use loopback

A request for your input.

Hello

My name is Lara Thynne and I am a PhD candidate at Deakin University
Australia. I am currently researching the boundary between work and
leisure activities directly related to the open source community and
open source program development.

As part of this I am running a survey at the following address.

https://dcarf.deakin.edu.au/surveys/oss/

The survey is completely confidential and looks at your views and
motivations to use Open Source software and to participate in the
community.

It will only take a five to ten minutes to complete and your contact
details will not be recorded. You can withdraw your participation at
any stage.

I sincerely apologize for the spammish nature of this e-mail - I
don't mean to abuse this list. I am trying to collect responses
from as many open source developers and users as possible and a
mailing list like can be the only way to reach many developers.

Thanks again

Lara

P.S The program that I am using is open source, of course
(www.phpsurveyor.org)!

TightVNC View Port Issues

Hello,
I just installed the TightVNC server on my WindowsXP box. I also downloaded the viewer on to my USB flash drive. I set the server to listen on port 4444, but I am unable to specify this port in the viewer (Connecting from a separate computer, of course). When I type in "host:4444", the viewer status window says, "Failed to connect to server host:10344." Which is not the port I specified.

Anything I'm doing wrong, or is this a bug? I'm using TightVNC version 1.3.8.

Thanks,
~Schiz0
