dual head video card recommendations

Hi,

Looking at 2.2.2 - can anyone suggest a dual head video card that is supported? it also needs to be half height.

regards

Brian

Best HW Setup for a self builded Thinstation?

Hello,sorry if this post is a duplicate, but i can´t find my post from last friday in the list archive, so i guess it was not send correctly..

just a little question about hardware setup for thinstations. We want to implement our own designed Thinstations for the next 1-2 years, if possible.

At the moment we use several Thinclients from Neoware and some other Brands ( TermalTek TK-3770), but they have all some serious problems, if they run for 7x24 hours worktime.

Nearly 50% of all Powersupplys will fail in the first 2 years. We are an Industrial Steel Mill and need, for our 7x24 workinghours, a working thinclient 8-).

For now we are researching, if we can build our own Thinclients with some standard "mini-itx" cases (with a real good power supply) and a "long term available" motherboard ( VIA or ATOM based). So we don´t have to redevelop every 6 month a new kernel/driver and so on.

I would like to know, what Hardware Specs you would use to reach the same goal.

Some embedded VIA Board / Atom Board. What would you suggest?

We just use the Thinstation to boot to a Blackbox Session with 2-3 Rdesktop Sessions.
We need a DVI Port ,Screen-Resolutions Up to 1680,Sound for Rdesktop,USB Ports, PXE boot and so on. No special things.

Thanks for all your feedback

bye
Roman

P.S. Excuse my english spelling please 8-).

I can give you non-recommation. Stay away from Intel D201GLY2: it runs
hotter than hell, the BIOS is poor, the PXE shaky and the poor SIS
graphics only works with the VESA driver, requiring 100% CPU load for
the tiniest YouTube video.

Good hunting ... :-)

one of my customers (hot/cold forging and machining) used the "flepo
minipc2". its quite expensive, but runs very good. its an amd geode 800
with standard vga but really good signal strenght.
i haven't tested sound, but everything else runs very well.

the flepo guys has the minipc4 which has a dvi port. but i never seen it
in real life.

both have a metal case without holes.

if you need something more robust (and more expensive ;-) take a look at
 http://www.visionsystems.de/ they sell products with extended
temperature ranges. they have even faster clients with celeron 600
(compared to amd geode 800) and support for din rail 24V power supplies.

both are german companies.

cause of some trouble with a special application which uses the serial
port with the local windows xp they decided to change to IGEL.

don't hesitate to mail me off-list in german.

best regards

tobias

you have to provide a custom config with the following parameters. it
starts directly a session on the <server.domain>

if youre using rdesktop to connect to a windows server use:
SESSION_0_TITLE="Terminal Server"
SESSION_0_TYPE=rdesktop
SESSION_0_SCREEN=0
SESSION_0_AUTOSTART=ON
SESSION_0_RDESKTOP_SERVER=<server.domain>
SESSION_0_RDESKTOP_OPTIONS="-a 16 -N -u '' -x l"

here is important the small letter "L"
it means experiance LAN.
But depending on your setup you have to enable it on the windows server,
too. Its bad for performance.

take a look at the rdesktop manpage <at> http://linux.die.net/man/1/rdesktop

you can build a custom live cd with ts-o-matic or provide the config via
 tftp. you'll find some examples on the thinstation home page.

Sounds like you are looking for a low-power device. I would suggest a
winterm like the one here ( see link) with PXE boot....

I have been using the little via boards for years (and do most of my
testing on them - with a 1680x1050 monitor). Whilst the 533MHz ones
will support 2 rdesktop sessions, I'm not sure how they would cope
with 3 sessions with sound and 1680 screen resolution. Also, none of
mine have dvi (all dsub). I have found them to be 'bullet-proof'.

The only issue with the Intel Atom (which should be faster etc. - see
the ASUS eeebox - which I bought for my father), is the age of the
current drivers in 2.2.2 (they don't support the chipsets used for
sound, nic etc.). This may be handled by using the newer 2.6.27.4
kernel for 2.2.2 (see post to Tomislav on the Developer list), but
this hasn't been confirmed yet, or by using 2.4 (which is still in
alpha, but rdesktop/blackbox works fine).

Re: KIOSK Config with 2 sessions

Sorry Remy,

I 'lost' your e-mail for a few days.... (I'm getting a little
forgetful in my old age... :-)

Can/have you try
SESSION_1_SCREEN=1

This is supposed to start the second session on a separate screen.
