Thinstation fork -- SpiceFly

All,

I just wanted to make you all aware I am forking Thinstation into
something called 'SpiceFly'. This is a non-hostile fork.

SpiceFly is aimed as a commercial product for corporations and personal
use. It is specifically targetted at Thin-Client, client/server
environments (Windows Terminal Services, Citrix).

SpiceFly fully builds in Windows, and sports a full GUI wizard. You can
point'n'click your way through designing and deploying SpiceFly images,
choosing which hardware you wish to support, and server properties.

After you have built an image, you can save the template, and use to build
further images with hardware or network differences across sites.

SpiceFly is still under active beta development. Full roadmaps available
soon.

Support initially comes from the Forums on the website, or email.
Commercial support options are under development.

Documentation for SpiceFly, together with full deployment documention,
will be available. Hard copy CDs and support documentation will also be
available for worldwide shipping.

With regards to Thinstation, we're currently using B8 as a base, although
we'll be keeping roughly in sync with new releases. Also, we will be
contributing much code back to Thinstation. SpiceFly is by no means an
attempt to derail Thinstation - we love the product - but it's an attempt

Do you see any cyrillic at all in Thinstation? E.g. in Firefox?
If not, you may need to use cyrillic fonts instead of the standard ones.
For ICA, I am not sure if switch is handled by X (xkb) or the ICA server.
If it is handled by the xkb, the ru.xkm file that comes with TS does not
have the switch.
You can hold Alt and type, but this is not the way you want it.

I have a package with cyrillic fonts and an ru.xkm file with a switch, but I
am not sure if it will work for you,
and you will have to rebuild TS boot image yourself (the package cannot be
loaded, it needs to be built into).
You can get it from http://home.comcast.net/~inow3/

abnt2 keymaps update

Hi,

After I release the abnt2 X keymap, <AlessandroK@...>
noticed me the KP_Period didn't work yet. Until his notice I didn't
realize there was another key for period in the keyboard, as the normal
<Delete/Period> key was replaced by <Delete/comma>. The size of the
KP_Plus was reduced to make room for the <period>.
So, I got an abnt2 keyboard again, set the environment to add this key.
The console keymap already has not this key definition, so I did the
following for the console:
1 - Load the "br-abnt2.kmap" into the server with "loadkeys"; the source
acompanies the conectiva linux, which I use;
2 - Dumpkeys to a file and remove the lines containing only
"VoidSymbol"; the purpose of this procedure was to eliminate the "includes";
3 - After some edit, I loaded it again on the server and used the
"dumpkmap" from the busybox to create the raw map.

For the X keyboard, I used xev to determine the keycode to add to the
source I already prepared last week; then I edited the file to add the
key definition and used the xkbcomp to create the raw map.

After all this done, I introduced the copyright notes on top of these
files from the original ones.

Attached I'm submiting 2 archives, one for the sources and one for the
raw files. To update the distribution, the .bin.tgz file must be
untarred in thinstation distribution base directory.

Have a nice week end!

Local and TS profile

Not exactly a thinstation issue but maybe anyone can help out.

The thing is we have a small number of users(5-10) on thinstation.
We noticed last week that our TS server(also our domain server) is
running low on diskspace as a result of the user profiles being stored
in the documents and settings dir.
Some of our users have huge maildirs which cause the diskspace to run
low at the moment. (and would be even more of a problem if more users
are added)
I know that since the TS users are in effect working on the server
locally their profiles should be there.

Is there any way to redirect these profiles to use the profile share(we
have both a profile and home networkshare)?
So basically when a user logs on, their profile wouldn't be synchronized
with the one in the profile share but instead the one in the profile
share would be used.

Re: help me ....fatal error please answer

Hi Yogesh,

I did some google with your error message and I found 203 occurencies.
It's normally related to X server configuration. As thinstation does
auto configuration, something must be different for the software. Open
a console session and inspect the file /var/log/XFree86.0.log. In the
end of this file you will see a more detailed reason for the failure. To
get this done, you will have to:
- Press Ctrl/Alt/F2; you will see a prompt "Please press Enter to
activate this console"
- Do it (press enter); you will see "XXX login: ", where XXX is the
station name;
- enter "root<enter>"; you will see "Password: "
- enter the password you gave at "build.conf" or the default
"pleasechangeme";
  you will see "XXX:/tmp/profile# "
- Now you have to enter "cat /var/log/XFree86.0.log" or "more
/var/log/XFree86.0.log". It's a big file. Mine has 1665 lines and
normally, at the end you have the reason of failure.

Forgive me this step by step above, but as I feel your urgency, I
decided to prevent a new email iteration before you get more data to
progress your trouble.

Have a nice sunday!

Osvaldo.
