Problem while autostarting FreeRDP session

Hi guys,

It seems that I found whats the problem:
My goal is to run latest FreeRDP client on Thinstation, so I modified the Pkgfile of freerdp (ts/ports/components/freerdp/Pkgfile) and commented out the line that switches to stable branch of freerdp code ("#git checkout 1.0.2") to obtain and build the latest master one and then run update command ("prt-get update -if -fr freerdp"). Stable one is autostarted normally but the latest master branch of FreeRDP cannot be started automatically - only black screen without any picture. But if I run this master FreeRDP from xfwm4 session - all is fine!

Dear Don, please help me! I really need the latest master branch of FreeRDP to be run on Thinstation! The stable one has some serious problems with USB device redirection and some problems with smartcards.

Thanks in advance!

Commercial Image Creation?

Hello,

for my school I would like to have a new Image for our Thinclients (old
PCs, Pentium 4 from HP (Evo), FJS etc.)

I managed creating working images with TS-O-Mat, but I am not successful
with thinstation 5.1 and I don't have the time to understand how to do
it. So I asked the headmaster today if we can spend some money for
someone who creates an image. We can.

The needs are:

- only and automatic rdp connection to a terminalserver
- usb usage at the thinstation
- sound at the workstation
- sheduled poweroff

The network ist already running Thinclients with TS 2.1, so I could give
my thinstation.conf.build.

I would prefere someone who spends work and time in the thinstation
project and it would be nice if he could speak german.

Anyone interested? The best would be to send me a private mail.

Thanks,

Andreas

Problem while autostarting FreeRDP session

Dear Don,

First of all, I'm trying the latest git version of TS.
I faced with some strange problem while autostarting FreeRDP session: there is only black screen (with mouse cursor) after TC boot. But when I'm moving to console (by ctrl+alt+F3) and running 'ps -ef' command to see process list there are correct processes that responds for my session (as I think):
..
ck-launch-session xfreerdp <my_correct_params>
..
xfreerdp <my_correct_params>
..
And there is also this thing - on the black screen I'm able to interact with FreeRDP. In *blind* mode I hit <enter>, my username <tab> password and <enter> again and then FreeRDP enters to my terminal server (as I think because I was log on the different machine and after making these operations on TC I was busted from different machine's session and also I was able to see some debug output in logfile by freerdp on the console screen of TC that appears usually after sucessfull logon). FreeRDP is working  but I can't see it's face - only black screen.

Next thing. I'm booting with xfwm4 session as autostart. Desktop appearing, all is fine. I'm switching to console and running xfreerdp with params manually. Switching back to desktop screen - and voila - FreeRDP screen is looking at me.

So, dear Don, can you help me? Kindly asking you in advice of debugging and solving this.

Speed up pkg loading

Hi,

one of my thinstation images loads some dynamic pkgs while booting, e.g. libreoffice and java. Both take a
long time to load (even over a gigabit ethernet). Would it speed up things when I load these big packages via
nfs or smb? Now all packages are loaded via tftp ...

Kind regards

New HP T610 - Performance issue with Radeon HD 6230 and xorg-ati

Hi guys,

As HP stop to produce the t5540 thin client (this model was so fine !),
we buy some new model : HP T610.
This model switch from intel to AMD hardware (CPU : AMD G-T56N and GPU :
ADM Radeon HD 6300), and produce some trouble with graphic performance.

After founding the 3 firmwares needed, I was able to use xorg-ati.
Compared to t4450, the performance under freerdp is worst (a little bit
on IE and OpenOffice, but a lot on our main tool developped with Progress).
I've update xorg-ati to the latest git version from 6.14.99 to 7.1.99
and libdrm (needed for new version of xorg-ati), but that result in no
change on performance.

After that, I've try to run with nomodeset (or radeon.modeset=0), but
this result is a maximum resolution of 1280x1280 which disallow dual screen.
I've also try to run on VESA, but the xorg never detect the second screen...

I'm out of ideas now... Somebody could have an idea to help me ?

If no-one can't give me an idea with the OpenSource driver, I've see
that the linux embedded (with fglrx and freerdp) by HP run fine.
Is there any chance to include fglrx into Thinstation ?

Thanks you in advance,

Best regards,
Greg

shell arrays

Hi,
just found that the standard BusyBox ash shell doesn't support arrays!
OMG - this break the alsaconf script which is resulting in audioproblems
like not initializing the saved asound.state
Is there any way to add array support or switch to bash shell?

Cordially,
Axel

Re: I need some help - spanning

Hi Don,

>1. Vmware view client on multiple monitors ? I?ve included the latest View client (version 2.0.0) in my
image by modifying the boot.url file but cannot get the View it >to use more than one monitor.? It includes a
command line command called ?allmonitors that does this (I?ve tested it on an already booted image) but I
can?t get it into the >image so that vmview auto launches with it.? How Do I include the ?allmonitors switch
in the vmwarepcoip program launch command?

>>1. I have confirmed that the vmview script does not parse the conf files for options correctly. I have
tweaked the script to do so. I will push this change to master and eventually 5.1-Stable after it is tested.
You should be able to drop this script into packages/vmviewpcoip/build/extra/bin/. and then run
./build --removeall; ./build --kernel SMP afterwards. You will also want to add something like this
'SESSION_1_VMVIEWPCOIP_OPTIONS="--fullscreen --allmonitors"' to your
thinstation.conf.buildtime for autostarted sessions.

Has this script been posted to git yet? I don't see it, where should I be looking if it's there?

Thanks for the fix,

-greg

but now I wonder why the ~/.icewm/startup file seems to be ignored while
it works well if I excute it manually

Sounds like a sacrilege ;)  did this successfully by editing the initrd but seems to be a little tedious so I was hoping there could
be a build parameter to change only the adjusted configuration - if not it's ok to download what's required via tftp.
Btw - could you give a hint how to autostart the tftpd inside of thinstation  without the devstation package?

Hi Don,
thank you for the patch - I'll check it out ASAP.
For now I removed the fastboot init script and work with the normal boot.

Regarding the config I currently use this (thinstation.conf-10.10.5.27):
thost='10.10.5.100'

mkdir .icewm

tftp -g -r .icewm/startup -l .icewm/startup $thost
tftp -g -r .icewm/menu -l .icewm/menu $thost

tftp -g -r .linphonerc.26 -l .linphonerc $thost

moz='.mozilla/firefox/TS.default'

for i in  urlclassifier3.sqlite places.sqlite prefs.js localstore.rdf key3.db cert8.db

do
    tftp -g -l $moz/$i -r .mozilla.26/$i $thost
done

mkdir  /var/lib/alsa
tftp -g -r asound.state -l  /var/lib/alsa/asound.state $thost

################

for example something the missing /var/lib/alsa I would like to add to the build without rebuilding everything - is ther a way?
It works well so far but when I now run another init script the file is included again and all the saved configs are downloaded from the tftpd server again
not a big thing but maybe you know how to avoid this.
also it would be nice to have the tftpd started automatically without the devstation - how can I do that?
I want this thinstation with the CF based boot to serve the clients booting over pxe.

Cordially,
Axel
