hostname syntax

I have just installed smokeping on CentOS 5.2. The graphs come up ok, but
they are blank and show 100% packet loss. I'm not sure I have my hosts
properly defined in /etc/config

Can't I just have something like:

+ Host_Group_1
menu=Group1
title=Group1

++ host1
host=192.168.100.1

The private IP is just an example. And, yes the address is ping-able from
this server.

You could help us to help you by giving more of your configuration.

Do you have a 'probe' line in there somewhere?

apache alias setup?

Sorry for what must be a FAQ – but Google couldn’t find any solutions?  J

I have smokeping installed on Debian and Ubuntu – and the files are kept in a few locations –

   /var/lib/cgi-bin/smokeping.cgi  (startup)

  /var/www/smokeping/…   (web files & graphs)

  /var/lib/smokeping  (data files)

I want to be able to run it without using the /cgi-bin/smokeping.cgi  syntax,

Just   //machine/smokeping

I tried several (many!) things; the closest (the alias) runs the program, but it then fails to locate its data files and so I get blank screens. Other permutations run it but don’t recognize it as cgi, so list the text of cmokeping.cgi, etc…

I’m not very familiar with the details of these apache options, and figure this must be a FAQ. Any pointers or refs are appreciated.

Using CiscoRTTMonEchoICMP with VRFs

Hello,

I've recently setup smokeping version 2.004002 and am trying to get CiscoRTTMonEchoICMP  to work with VRFs but when I run it I get the following error:

SNMP Error:
Received SNMP response with error code
  error status: noCreation
  index 14 (OID: 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.42.1.2.2.1.26.22187)
SNMPv2c_Session (remote host: "10.32.0.218" [10.32.0.218].161)
                   community: "minmssecret"
                  request ID: 422131458
                 PDU bufsize: 8000 bytes
                     timeout: 2s
                     retries: 5
                     backoff: 1)

My config is:

++ 10-6-40-140
menu = 10.6.40.140
probe = CiscoRTTMonEchoICMP
title = 10.6.40.140 vrf myVrfName
host = 10.6.40.140
ioshost = mycommunity <at> 10.32.0.218
packetsize = 56
tos = 160
vrf = myVrfName

And this is from a cisco CISCO7606 router running IOS  Version 12.2(18)SXF9.

Anyone run into a similar issue? Googling hasn't helped in finding a solution.

Thanks,
Manuel

Smoketrace Display Issue

All,

I have Smoketrace 2.4.1 working with no issues.

I upgraded to 2.4.2 and Smoketrace works but with a significant change.

In 2.4.1 when I launch Smoketrace the Smoketrace window immediately shows the result of the first traceroute and the statistics update as each traceroute completes.

In 2.4.2 when I launch Smoketrace the status button shows "Starting", but the Smoketrace window remains blank until all the traceroutes complete.  Then the stats are displayed.

The issue with this is that with 2.4.2 with 20 rounds it can easily take 30 seconds or more before anything displays.

2.4.1 is running on Solaris 10 Sparc 32 bit V440, Apache 2.2.6   w/ SpeedyCGI
2.4.2 is running on Solaris 10 Sparc 64 bit T5220, Apache 2.2.11 w/ SpeedyCGI

Is this my issue? Did the behavior change from 2.4.1 to 2.4.2? or am I missing a user option somewhere that affects this behavior?

Thanks,

Vern Dias

Smoketrace on the demo site is 2.4.1, not 2.4.2.

Hi
A lot of older IOS isn't IP SLA vrf-aware. Could you inform me which IOS image you are running ? Run "sh ver" on your console and normaly look for image at disk0:
Which SUP are you using??
Also be aware of IOS 12.2(18)SXF9 have some serious software issues and are quite old.

Re: Using CiscoRTTMonEchoICMP with VRFs

Hi Rune,

Thanks. I didn't find it in "sh ver" but in "show inventory".

NAME: "5", DESCR: "WS-SUP720-3B 2 ports Supervisor Engine 720 Rev. 5.2"

Thanks for the information, I'll have to see if we can use 12.2(33)SRB5 to get this feature.

Regards,
Manuel

Hi Manuel
SUP is the "supervisor-card" you have in your Cisco 7606. If you run "sh ver" on your cisco-console an look for "Supervisor Engine".
According to Cisco Software Advisor you need 12.2(33)SRB5 to get "IP SLAs - MPLS VPN Awareness" : This feature was formerly known as Service Assurance Agent (SAA). Cisco IOS IP Service Level Agreements (IP SLAs) is a capability embedded in Cisco IOS Software, and allows Cisco customers to understand IP service levels, increase productivity, lower operational costs, and reduce the frequency of network outages. The MPLS VPN operation feature allows SAA probe traffic to be forwarded using the MPLS VPN VRF routing table. Customers using this feature will create probes on PE routers utilizing MPLS VPN or on VRF lite enabled devices.

The IOS image is

System image file is "disk0:s72033-advipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF9.bin"
I'm new to smokeping and don't know what SUP is. If it is the smokeping version I am running SmokePing-2.4.2 on Centos 5.3.
Do you know the minimum IOS version that is IP SLA vrf-aware?

Thanks,
