Smokeping main page

Hello,

I have many smokeping probes running on different servers and i would
like to create a single html page where i could look at different PNGs
located on these servers in one time.

Is it possible to link to a certain url to get an up to date png of a
probe test?

Regards,

Alexis

Re: Smokeping main page

Hi Alexis,

if you look at the image url after zooming in with live zoom, you
see the ajax url ... they give you a live image ... if you use a
relative start and end parameter ...

cheers

I'm trying again to get speedy working to make smokeping.cgi scale
better. before I get too far, as speedy not been udpated in a very
long while? The one I found was pretty old (2003) from here http://
daemoninc.com/SpeedyCGI/download.html.

I setup a new installation of my smokeping master and all was well
with no errors.
I switched to speedy as the interpreter for smokeping.cgi and then
started getting this error:

RRDs::info /path/to/files/hostname.rrd: ERROR: can't handle RRD file
version 0003 at /path/to/smokeping/lib/Smokeping/RRDtools.pm line 113.

This is the same thing that happened to me last time. Ok, I guess
something changes with speedy I think, so I just remove the data and
htdocs/cache data and start over from scratch.

Now I get the UI to come up but I get errors in apache log

[Mon Mar 03 15:51:24 2008] [error] [client 216.x] [Mon Mar 3
15:51:24 2008] smokeping.cgi [client 216.x]: Use of uninitialized
value in string eq at /path/to/smokeping/lib/Smokeping.pm line 631.

When I go to view some graphs (which there is no data yet obviously)
I guess a slew of errors

Re: speedy issues

It turns out I had two versions of the RRDs perl modules installed. I
had linked speedy against the wrong copy of perl. Anyway, it works
now. Thanks!

[HELP] TCPPing Probe = blank graphs

Hi folks,

First off ... I'm very much a novice at all this, so please take it easy
on me. ;)

I've got a basic SmokePing configuration up and running without any
problems.

I've got a copy of the tcpping script on my machine, and I've added all
the necessary data into my SmokePing config file, as per
http://oss.oetiker.ch/smokeping/probe/TCPPing.en.html

The binary path is definitely set correctly, and I also know that the
tcpping script is working, since I can run it fine through a terminal
window.

The trouble is, when I set the probe type to TCPPing on one of my
graphs, it just doesn't seem to generate any data.

I've done some searching and come up with this post, which seems like
it's the same problem that I'm seeing, but I'm afraid that his
'solution' doesn't really mean much to me.

Can anyone offer me any help/advice on what I might need to do to get
this working properly?

Much appreciated.

Regards,

Re: about smokeping --reload

Hello all,

am I right in understanding that a 'smokeping --reload' will reset the
state on all devices? For example, a device that was unreachable before
the "--reload" will produce another unreachable alert after the
"--reload", is that so?

Also, I seem to have an issue with "--reload": If for example, I change
an alertee for a specific target and then reload smokeping config,
alerts are still being sent to the previous alertee and not the one I've
just set. I usually have to do a "smokeping --restart" in order to fix
that. This happens on smokeping 2.1.1 . Was there a bug that I've missed?

cheers

Smokeping Master/Slave

Hello,

I'm attempting to get Master/Slave working using the latest version
2.003002, debian package.

I have simplified my config to avoid confusion. I took out the domain
and nameserver info as it is not important, and is correct. Here is
what I have configured.

Both the master and slave start without error. If I don't set
masterpoll, the master probes no problem. I should also mention both
machines are identical ( virtual machines )

I have my slave and master to debug. And I can see that the slave gets
it config, and in debug mode you can see the pings happening. (I have
included a snippet of the log at
the bottom). Also I can see the packets flow, between the two systems
using tcpdump

The master, appears not to be picking up the slave data, even though
it is being sent to the master.

Below is my configuration.

On the master.

/etc/defaults/smokeping
----------------------------------------
MODE=master

Re: Smokeping Master/Slave

Hi Shawn,

there were a few fixes to master/slave in the last few days. I have
just pushed 2.3.3 out, so before you try any further, make sure you
got the latest code !

cheers

Smokeping 2.3.3 released

Users!

I have released smokeping 2.3.3. This is a minor update with a few
improvements for, especially for master/slave operation.

* use separate slave cache and longer slave timeout. this
helps with slave congestion -- Phillip Moore pdm yahoo-inc.com

* add an optional --pid-dir option to specify the pid directory
when running as a slave. --niko

* slaves were not polling targets where nomasterpoll was set --tobi

As usual you can get the lates version of smokeping from

  http://oss.oetiker.ch/smokeping/pub

The Smokeping OSS project is sponsored by:

* SWITCH - The Swiss Education & Reserarch Network -
  http://www.switch.ch/
* Dynamic Network Services Inc - http://www.dyndns.org/

If you find smokeping useful, how about becoming a sponsor too?
