question about hostname display

Hello,

I have smokeping set up in the master/slave configuration. On the slave
I can override the 'hostname' by using the --slave-name directive. As
far as I can tell, this isn't possible on the master.

This is a problem on the "overview" page for a section. I get a 'Median
RTT from xxxxx.xxxxx.xxxxx.xxxx." This is too long and shoves the useful
data off the side of the graph where it is unreadable.

Futher, I'd like this to be settable as I'm using a virtualhost for
smokeping and would like the hostname of the actual system to remain
ambiguous to the end users of the graphs.

Is there something I'm missing somewhere in the config file that lets me
override this behavior?

thanks

/Ryan

Re: question about hostname display

I answered my own question here. I went poking around the code to see if
it was hard coded or what...the code pointed me to an option that its in
the config file by default, but is certainly documented on the main
Smokeping page.

display_name = xxx

Overrides 'hostname' when used in master/slave mode.

help needed for smokeping with Apache on Debian

Hi,

I  need a doc(s) on how to setup apache2 to show the smokeping graphs…

Smokeping is an apt-get install, (seems to have gone OK) next I have configured the conf, file and (re)started smokeping (its running), but I don’t seem to have an web page to look at, at

http://www.thing.dyndns.org/cgi-bin/smokeping.cgi

Instead I get,

The requested URL /cgi-bin/smokeping.cgi was not found on this server.

Apache/2.2.3 (Debian) mod_python/3.2.10 Python/2.4.4 PHP/4.4.4-8+etch4 mod_ssl/2.2.3 OpenSSL/0.9.8c mod_perl/2.0.2 Perl/v5.8.8 Server at www.thing.dyndns.org Port 80

Forgive me for being generic with a link, but there are many ways to set up apache, as well as your path schemes.  Look half way down the page and this tells you how to build / allow cgi scripting.

Maybe the same issue: I see my smokeping making AAAA in addition to
normal A queries. How can I disable this?

it looks for me the FPing will only do IPv4 ping probes.
FPing6 will do only IPv6 probes.

Maybe u activate both probe types?
