sending probes through multiple interfaces

Lets say that I have 2 logical interfaces on my linux PC, each with its
own IP address. Is there a way for
Smokeping (or its probes), to choose the source IP address for the probe
packets?

For example: Measure the ICMP latency of a single host and produce 2
graphs: one that sends
the pings from IP address A and one that sends the pings from IP address B.

Not receiving any alerts

Hi,
I have installed smokeping 2.0.7 in RHEL 3. The graph is displaying
properly, but I am not getting any alerts mails. I haven't configured
sendmail, but using the 'mailhost' setting to send the mail through a
smarthost with Net::SMTP option.

I have verified the Net::SMTP option through a perl script, its working
fine.

Can anyone please help to resolve this?

Many thanks,

Vibin

Hi,

I'm sorry but I have an itch every time I see an email with 2 or 3 lines
of real message, and 50 lines of legalistic disclaimer. And whenever I
have an itch, I scratch. It's nothing personal.

The fact that you posted your message to a public discussion list, means
that it no longer is confidential. So your "legal disclaimer" is invalid.

Hi Rune,

Sorry I didn't notice this note earlier... been on vacation for the
last week. It sounds like you are running into the same issue I did
back in late June (see
http://lists.ee.ethz.ch/smokeping-users/msg01927.html).  I Sys::Syslog
v0.17 is out, but I believe it has the same issue. You can revert
back to v0.15 with the following command under 'perl -MCPAN -e shell":

  install S/SA/SAPER/Sys-Syslog-0.15.tar.gz

It sounds like recent versions of Sys::Syslog have been causing issues
for a variety of applications, not just SmokePing.

alerting - but not emailling

Hi all,

When I run smokeping -debug I get the following;-

Calling RRDs::update(/var/lib/smokeping/Local/Test_Firewall.rrd
--template uptime:loss:median:ping1:ping2:ping3:ping4 N:U:4:U:U:U:U:U)

Alert "bigloss": no match for target
/var/lib/smokeping/Local/Test_Firewall

Which means I am not receiving email alerts - why is there no match for
target?

Thanks

Re: alerting - but not emailling

Does the target exist in your smokeping configuration file?

unable to reload

 Hi all,
I want to reload my perfectly running smokeping to update my targets but I =
get the following error:
ERROR: I Quit! Another copy of ./bin/smokeping (23358) seems to be running.=
Check /opt/smokeping/bin/smokeping.pid.
The pid file has in every time the PID of the current running smokeping
process. I have set the piddir in /opt/smokeping/etc/config to
/var/smokeping/bin

Do I misunderstand the function of smokeping start, stop, restart and reloa=
d?

Any help is appreciated.

Thank y= ou,
