Fping and suid

What is the best way to have smokeping run as it's own user.
When I tried to have it run as the user 'smoke' ,fping complained it needed
to be SUID.
How do I make it SUID ?
Thanks !

Re: Fping and suid

Depending on your OS...

When you compile (or make), and then "make install" smokeping from the
/usr/ports directory under FreeBSD, SmokePing automatically creates the
required User Account and Group.

/usr/ports/net/smokeping/make install

This is the account that was created on my Server:

emerald# cat passwd |grep smok
smokeping:*:1010:1010:SmokePing Daemon:/nonexistent:/nonexistent

and group:

emerald# cat group |grep smok
smokeping:*:1010:

Hope you come right.

Re: Some graphs stay empty

Hi,

Most obvious....do you allow ICMP packets to your Servers?
Check Firewall Settings... :)

BUT, If so...then:

Have you checked your logs?
Also, enable logging?

# specify this to get syslog logging

As I've already shown, I use a HTML request which works when done from
the commandline.

Ah, I should do that.

Did you read what I wrote? ALL graphs work EXCEPT for two.

Re: Some graphs stay empty

After reading your mail again, it is obvious that your configuration is
correct. :p

Can you ping those two servers?

Yes, and can even reach their Port 80. So why do the graphs stay empty?
I'll fire up the logging...

Re: Some graphs stay empty

i had a similar problem and i removed the .rrd files for those two nodes and
restarted smokeping to have them recreated and fixed issue.

Re: Some graphs stay empty

That is also true. But then you will get an error message on the .cgi
screen, won't you?
