Dear all
    while configuring the smokeping configuration file i amnot able to understant what is this .simg
directory will it be created automatically or so i need to creat it?

cgi line 7 error

Dear all
i am asking this 2nd time, why i am getting these erros, is ther any permissions problem????? Please help me
out from these

I did respond to your first e-mail, with some pointers about reading Tobi's 
installation guide. I have no idea if you have done this or not, have you 
actually got around to installing the Speedy:CGI perl module? If not, read 
Tobi's installation guide.

I would say Smokeping cannot gain access to the Perl modules it needs. Yes, I 
would say this is a permission issue. I have no idea what version of 
Linux/Unix you are running, if you are running Redhat by default it creates 
permissions of "700" for all home directories. I would suggest moving the 
Smokeping directory to something more conventional like /usr/local or whatever 
takes your fancy. If you cannot do this, try "chmod 777 /home/zeeshan/" and 
work back from there.

But I would suggest reading Tobi's installation guide, it should answer most 
of your questions and verify you have everything you need installed.

but after giving  /home/talha 777 permission it worked fine

alerts problem

Hi

I am rather new to smokeping. I managed to get it working in no time but I
seem to have a problem in the email alerts. Below is a sample of the
configuration may be somebody can tell me what I am doing wrong

*** Targets ***
menu = test
title = test
host = test.ipstorm.net
alerts =  lossdetect
email = Chris Debono <chris <at> ipstorm.net>

*** Alerts ***
 to = info <at> ipstorm.net
 from = smokealert <at> ipstorm.net

 +lossdetect
 type = loss
 pattern = ==0%,==0%,==0%,==0%,>20%,>20%,>20%
 comment = suddenly there is packet loss

Is there something I am missing out?

Error with RRD

Hello,

I'm using SmokePing since a week and i have now an error when i launch it.

[root <at> noc rrdtool-1.0.41]# /usr/local/bin/smokeping --debug
### fping seems to report in 1 miliseconds
Launched successfully
FPing: probing 83 targets
ERROR: could not lock RRD

I didn't find any lock file or anything. Someone can give me a clue ?

The location of the "smokeping.pid" lockfile is actually defined in the 
"config" file.

pc-linux% grep -i pid /usr/local/smokeping/etc/config
piddir  = /var/run/
--

So assuming you don't have any other instances of smokeping running, you 
should be able to start it fine. I guess to make sure you could always 
"killall -9 smokeping". Failing that, "find / -name smokeping.pid" may help.

Install complete, Daemon Running, but I can't get graphs output

I don't know what to do..  I've been working on this all morning.  Any
help would be greatly appreciated!  I am running RedHat 8.0

What URL should one goto if the compilation and installation have gone
successfully to view data?

I'm trying Http://inetmon/ls/ (but no index.html was created for apache
to display)
I'm also trying http://inetmon/cgi-bin/smokeping.cgi but I receive the
following output from Apache:
Server error!
The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your
request. 
Error message: 
Premature end of script headers: smokeping.cgi 
If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster 
Error 500

Below is my smokemail.config file and my /bin/smokemail script.  

[root <at> netmon ls]# less /etc/smokeping.config 
# Note that all IP addresses in this file are false, to prevent some
# machine falling uder a deadly DOS storm because all users keep
# the same addresses in their config.

based echoping rather than ICMP echo's?
