I can't get those graphs

Hi everyone,

I just installed all those stuffs necessary to smokeping. Smokeping starts
fine and makes .rrd files but I can't get those graphs. What have I possibly
done wrong? How can I get those .png-files?

My bin/smokeping looks like this:

#!/usr/bin/perl5.6.1 -w
# -*-perl-*-

use lib qw(/usr/local/rrdtool-1.0.33/lib/perl);
use lib qw(/root/smokeping-1.9/lib);

use Smokeping 1.9;

Smokeping::main("/usr/local/smokeping/etc/config");

Re: I can't get those graphs

Teekkari -

It sounds like a directory permissions problem. Check that the directory
where the graphs are located are readable by the user that runs the web
server process.

Re: I can't get those graphs

In my etc/config I have defined like this:

imgcache = /var/log/smokedata
imgurl   = /var/log/smokedata
datadir  = /var/log/smokeping

and permissions to those directories are:

drwxrwxrwx    2 root     root         4096 May 29 10:49 smokedata
drwxrwxrwx    3 root     root         4096 Jun  4 09:40 smokeping

In smokeping directory I have .rrd-files like this:

-rwxrwxrwx    1 root     root      2986668 Jun  4 12:30 Pernis.rrd

But still I can't get those pictures.

Re: I can't get those graphs

Then your problem is most likely a web server configuration problem. Check
that there are links from the web server's "document root" to these
directories. Otherwise the web server won't be able to access those
directories.

First thank you for help you have gave me, but I still haven't managed to
solve the problem. I admit that I'm troublesome person. :-)

I modified my etc/conf:

imgcache = /var/www/html/smokeping
imgurl   = ../.simg
datadir  = /var/www/html/smokedata

I also tried imgurl = .simg
My /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf says:

DocumentRoot "/var/www/html"

And in my /var/www/html permissions are:

drwxrwxrwx    3 root     root         4096 Jun  5 13:38 smokedata
drwxrwxrwx    2 root     root         4096 Jun  5 12:52 smokeping

But no pictures jet...

:-) Thanks for all about those advices. Now it's working. Problems was that
I didn't realise, that those graphics are made only if I browse to those
webpages with browser. I don't need those cgi-bin/smokeping.cgi-sites, only
graphics, and that's why I didn't test those webpages. But when I tested,
I got those pictures. Thanks for all of you.

Thanks (Was to be EchoPingHttp & NaN)

Hi Tobi, Niko,

A big "Thanks!" to you guys for this app. I'll have to check out your wish list Tobi..

I've spent the day getting this installed and working. The bit I found most confusing was the EchoPingHttp
config. I've got it working now. Any change of a few examples in the config.dist file for future users?

I've got this in my config file after the FPing section and it does the job.. it took a lot of trial and error,
running in debug mode and waiting for RRDtool to have enough data to create a graph.

+ WebServers

menu = Web Servers
title = Web Servers
probe = EchoPingHttp

++ SERVER1

menu = SERVER1
title = SERVER1
host = server1.localdomain

++ SERVER2

menu = SERVER2
title = SERVER2
host = server2.localdomain

++ PROBE_CONF

How about database aliases?

Hi,

I'm graphing the response of a few remote web servers and gateways. The graphs are impacted by my local NTL
Broadband box and I'd like to show that impact in each of the overview pages. Is there a way I can collect the
data on my broadband router just the once but show it in more than one place?

Thanks,

Mark

Re: Smokeping Raw Data

Hi Johnathan,

You must use rrdtool to dump and restore the rrd files.
The file format after dump is xml.

To dump to XML :

rrdtool dump filename.rrd > filename.xml

To restore from XML files:

rrdtool restore filename.xml filename.rrd
