SILC Toolkit 1.1 Beta1

The new version of the SILC Toolkit is now available! The source package
of the software is available from the following sources:

         http://silcnet.org/
         ftp://ftp.silcnet.org/

Here we got with the brand new SILC Toolkit 1.1 Beta1. As the name
suggests we are still in beta which means that there may be stuff that
doesn't yet work. However, I can make a semi-binding promise that the
Toolkit APIs are now frozen and will not change anymore. So, if you
haven't yet started porting your application to 1.1 now is a high time to
start it. Read the porting manual at:

 	http://silcnet.org/docs/toolkit/porting.html

Summary of Changes
------------------

o Rewritten and improved SILC Client Library API.

o Improved runtime library. Added SILC Async Operations API,
SILC Data Stack API, SILC Condition Variable API, SILC Stream API,
SILC Socket Stream API, SILC Fd Stream API, SILC FSM API, SILC Time API,
SILC Snprintf API, SILC Atomic Operations API.

Improved the following APIs: SILC Buffer Format API, SILC Schedule API,
SILC Strutil API, SILC Mutex API, SILC Thread API, SILC Net API,
   SILC Buffer API.

[WEB REQ] Config File Error - SILC Server 1.0.4

Software: SILC Server 1.0.4
Operating System: Ubuntu 6.06 PPC
Installation: source

I\'ve been attempting to run silcd and have run into problems with the config file

The initial error was:
htregz <at> iMac:/usr/local/silc/etc$ sudo ../sbin/silcd
Error while parsing config file: Unknown option.
  file /usr/local/silc/etc/silcalgs.conf line 123: ?

I commented out the Include to see what would happen and received this error message:

htregz <at> iMac:/usr/local/silc/sbin$ sudo ./silcd
Error while parsing config file: Unknown option.
  file /etc/silc/silcd.conf line 537: ?

Any ideas or suggestions would be great... Google searches aren\'t proving overly helpful.

of the software is available from the following sources:

          http://silcnet.org/
          ftp://ftp.silcnet.org/

An entirely new version of SILC Client, the version 1.1 Beta3, is out.
This is still in beta and can still have some issues. If you encounter
any problems please report them either by sending bug report to
silc-devel@... or fill out a bug report at
http://silcnet.org/support/bugs.php.

The 1.1 is not full of new features, instead it is based on new rewritten

of missing features that will appear in later beta releases.

The highlight of Beta3 is the possibility to compile only the SILC Plugin
for the Irssi chat client.

I'm not having any luck with Beta4. Beta2 seemed OK, I missed 3, but 4 will
not build the silc binary (./configure && make ):

Today I hit this again with 1.1 Beta5, but I figured out what the problem was.

As it turns out, either from an old silc-client or silc-server, there used to
be a libsilc.so (I forget the version(s) ). I had this in /usr/local/lib. When
the final silc binary is linked, it's linked with libtool, and ends up
requesting "-lsilc". Since libsilc.so existed, you could see it at the tail
end of the link command; I thought this odd at the time, but didn't pay any
more attention to it.

So ld, given -lsilc

was happy grabbing /usr/local/lib/libsilc.so,

when in reality the binary requires

silc-client-1.1-beta5/lib/.libs/libsilc.a
