Is this with the FC5 Samba rpms? Or ones from Samba.org?

Re: trouble with ferdora core 5 with samba

Have you tried to add "public = yes" to share to see if that helps?
For example:

[Sharename]
        writeable = yes
        path = /opt/samba/software
        force group = users
        force user = ron
        public = yes
        create mode = 777
        directory mode = 777

You don't give a lot of background so I'll just respond in
the general case. The STATUS_BUFFER_OVERFLOW error is used
to indicate to a client that the RPC reply PDU will be fragmented
across multiple read requests.

This is controlled by the undocumented 'auth methods' parameter.
For domain members, and the domain of the name being authenticated.
DOMAIN\user will only be authenticated by a domain controller
for that domain.

You don't need an smbpasswd file on domain member servers.
In this case, the smbpasswd file would be the local SAM
and the domain controllers provide the domain SAM. Just like
you would see on a Windows member server.

Fabio,

That document is realy superb. I coplied and likned the files as u said.

./tesparm gives

XFS Group Quotas Revisited

I wrote into the list a few days ago about XFS Group Quotas not working
in Samba 3.0.21c and 3.0.22. I have confirmed that if I uninstall
3.0.22 and reinstall 3.0.13, when I change an XFS group quota on Linux
and mount a share that belongs to that group, if I look at the
"Properties" for that share in Windows, Windows tells me that the "size"
of the share is equal to the GROUP QUOTA that was set -- i.e., 200 GB.
That is the desired behavior.

If I switch back to 3.0.22, Windows tells me in the "Properties" for the
share that the size of the share is equal to the size of the PHYSICAL
VOLUME (in this case, 4.4 TB).

What can I do to help you track down the source of this problem? Is
there a workaround? It doesn't seem as though this is the same problem
that was reported earlier about LVM and XFS and Quotas.

Andy Liebman

Slow logon

I have several servers that take an exceptionally long time to sign onto
our Windows domain. It is not unheard of for it to take upwards of 3 or
4 minutes. The server is a member of the domain and the users are using
an AD account to sign onto the server locally. Were could I being to
look to resolve this issue?

Thanks,

Ron

Thanks for your reply. What role does the local Linux machine's /etc/passwd
play here, then? In this particular situation, the UNIX and Windows logins are
the same. Thus, for example, UNIX user 'joeuser' and domain user DOMAIN\joeuser
are the same.

So, to reword question #1: With no smbpasswd file (as you suggest), and with
the presence of an /etc/password entry for 'joeuser,' and a domain user of the
same name, which authenticates first? And which password (assuming they may not
be the same) works?
