Re: Samba Add Machine Script

Over here I'm using:

add machine script = /usr/sbin/useradd -c Machine -d /dev/null  \
-g machines -s /bin/false %u

It works for me, though currently still using local UNIX & Samba databases.
Don't know why you have to use %u seeing as %m is the NetBIOS machine name
but it works.

No, and not in the future. My feeling is that we have sufficient
complexity, before we go beyond what MS supports in this kind of thing.
There be dragons!

In all seriousness, what is wrong with a trusted domain setup? Or move
all your machines into a single domain, which is the pattern in the post
Win2k Microsoft world.

samba v3.0.7 and Suse firewall

Hello,
   I am setting up a suse linux v9.1 host to provide file and print
services to a mix of os/2 and windows clients. In this case windows is not
a problem. I am running into difficulty getting the os/2 clients to see
the resources on the linux server.
   The main problem is the firewall. Without the firewall os/2 hosts have
no problem with accessing resources. With the firewall the hosts cannot
access the server.
   There seems to be some problem related to ARP. The os/2 hosts broadcast
a request to a nameserver (x.x.x.255) looking for the resource. Without
the firewall there is an exchange of arp data; with the firewall, the
packets are blocked.
   What port is the firewall blocking? In the Suse firewall config file
there is:
FW_SERVICES_EXT_TCP="139 445 760 http https imap imaps nfs smtp ssh"
FW_SERVICES_EXT_UDP="137 138 760 788:799 nfs 111"
   Yet when I attempt to access the linux server, I find this in the
messages log:

Oct 31 16:52:34 sma-server2 kernel: SFW2-DROP-BCASTe IN=eth1 OUT=
MAC=ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:00:03:ff:29:24:34:08:00 SRC=192.168.69.201
DST=192.168.69.255 LEN=78 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=64 ID=140 PROTO=UDP
SPT=137 DPT=137 LEN=58

   00:03:ff:29:24:34/192.168.69.201 is the MAC/IP of the host requesting
info. The firewall dropped the broadcast packet even though the firewall
is configured to allow it. Am I reading the logs correctly?

similar if you required this to happen. The better way to go about it I

   May be. What is proxy arp'ing?
   But that does not really answer my question which, upon reflection, may
not have been clear.

SuSE9.1 Hylafax 4.1.8-21

Dear all,

    I have recently installed a machine with the above mentioned
configuration. The machine will be a fax-server. It will only receive
(at the moment) faxes and store them on its hard-drive.

    the problem is that all the faxes that I receive are either
black pages or they are white pages with a black thick stripe
horizontaly.

    Can someone please give me a hand with this??

Tons of thanks!
Chris

Samba help

Hi,
I have a network in my room with three computers right now, two connected to a Lynksys router, that router is
connected to a wider network, then to the internet.
The three computers i have in my room are:
laptop running Windows Server 2003, connected to a wireless router
desktop running Windows Server 2003, connected to the router in my room
desktop running Mandrake 9.2 connected to the router in my room
i'm trying to get my mandrake 9.2 to run a samba server that will allow my two windows 2003 computers to access
shares on it. i do not have a domain controller, just a small home network with a few routers. i am having alot
of trouble getting the samba server to work correctly. First, when i use LinNeighborhood, i can see all my
other windows computers on my network. When i open Network Places on my windows 2003 computers, i cannot
see my mandrake machine shares. however, if i go to Entire Network/Microsoft Windows Network i see my
workgroup name (MSHOME) but i also see an additional workgroup named MDKGROUP. When i open MDKGROUP it
says "unable to open mdkgroup, you might not have permission blah blah" but earlier, i COULD open it, and
when i did i saw a Samba Server vsomething.something(LOCALHOST). and when i opened that, i say the folder
on the mandrake box that i was sharing, b
 ut when i tried to open it, it gave me an error saying i didnt have permission. i'm very confused
 and cant seem to even browse my mandrake shares. im also confused as to why there is a MDKGROUP workgroup,
when i specified "workgroup = MSHOME" in my smb.conf. can someone PLEASE help me? thanks in advance
