specific polling for Cisco devices

Is it possible to setup so the only two methods of monitoring a Cisco device, say,  ICMP and SNMP?  Which file do I edit for this?  I also want to just monitor the loopback and not all of the interfaces.  I’ve correctly put interfaces into discovery-configuration.xml but they are all eventually re-enabled when I check” Home / Admin / Manage/Unmanage Interfaces” from the WEB page they get re-enabled.

I don’t really need to hit each and every IP interface of a switch or router.

Hrm, the re-enable sounds like a bug. What version of OpenNMS? Is
there anyway to easily identify the non-loopback interfaces? You
could create a package that just polls those.

issue with the installer

I ran the installer to setup the PostgreSQL Database and jicmp/jrrd as follows, indicated in the OpenNMS Installation guide.

# $openNMS_HOME/bin/install -l $openNMS_HOME/lib -dis

The "-l" paramter will look for the jicmp and/or jrrd libraries in the location specified. The "-dis"
will initialize and check the database.

The installer could not recognize "-l" (letter l)parameter. Also, at the end of the output, installer indicated that it could not load iplike.so since it is built for 32-bit OS, while I am trying to  execute installer on 64-bit openSuse 10.1 kernel (Version 2.6.16.13). I guess jicmp, jrrd, iplike.so libraries are packaged along with openNMS.

Is there OpenNMS rpm built for 64-bit OS ?

opennms itself doesn't care (it's a noarch rpm), but jicmp and jrrd need
to match the bittedness of your OS. You can install jicmp and jrrd from
source by downloading the source tar.gz files from:

  http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=4141

...and running:

  rpmbuild -tb <tarball>

If you don't mind, send me the .rpm files when you're done, and I'll
make sure they end up in the Yum repository.

Re: specific polling for Cisco devices

Tarus, No it's not that easy to identify the non-loopback interfaces,
it's a better case for the loopbacks though.

Re: Define multiple ports for Oracle in 1.2.7

Hello List,

After some digging in the class definitions, it seems to be possible
to use only 1 port in the TcpPlugin class, as opposed to for example
the HttpPlugin class where an array of port numbers is passed to the
class.

Good anyone give me a clue on how to scan for multiple ports on a
service, which in this case would be Oracle?

Thanks, Enrique.

You can create this file with

touch /opt/OpenNMS/etc/configured

but the fact that it is not being created is troublesome. Are you
running the install commands as root? I assume you are.

What O/S are you on? I would suggest trying out 1.3.7 if this is a
first time install.

Multiple SNMP community strings per IP Range in snmp-config.xml?

Can OpenNMS process multiple SNMP community strings for the same IP range during auto discovery?
I'm using the attached snmp-config.xml for testing v1.3.7 unstable. The discovery process finds and
queries the snmp data from devices using "myfirststring" but doesn't seem to poll snmp data from devices
using "mysecondstring".

Thanks,
Jaimie Livingston

Re: Cannot find "configured" to start

It looks like opennms.sh is not functioning as intended, as once I do
that, it's failing with the message that I have "files that end in
.rpmsave in my OPENNMS_HOME (/opt/OpenNMS) directory", which is not the
case (although there was something in a subdirectory).

I went ahead and installed the 1.3.7, which I was reluctant to do, since
I'm working on a proof of concept and am more interested in making sure
it can work in my client's environment than performance issues and
advanced functionality. However, if it installs more smoothly then I'm
all for it.

And everything did go smoothly until I went to access the web interface
and get a 404 error (for *everything*). I suspect that this may be
because I've had a tomcat server running from a very strange directory
and there might be some absolute location problems, although it's my
understanding that 1.3.7 doesn't use that. Once again, I'm at a total
loss as to how to resolve this. Any ideas?
