Re: Fedora 7 (x86_64) and OpenNMS 1.3.3-1 (x86_64)

Hi all it's me again.

I reviewd what I wrote and I did make a mistake...

6.2 cd /root/temp
is to be read as
6.2 cd /data/archives

Of course as I wrote, my temp directory.

After reading it again it all looks correct now.

Happy playing...

John Natschev.

I just build a FC7 VM (I can't seem to get the 64-bit VM to install -
I could have a bad image. I had to change the SCSI driver from
lsilogic to buslogic to get the 32-bit one to work).

Feel free to post it on the wiki (http://www.opennms.org) if you
would like.

Hi Tarus.
This may seem like a pretty stupid question...
How do I add the instructions to the wiki?

Never used a wiki before other than to read what's there. I've been using the
Internet for nearly 20 years (started I.T. life at a University) and I haven't
got a clue how to use a wiki.

If you can help me with this I am more than happy to put the instructions on the
wiki.

Cheers,
John "What's a Wiki?" Natschev - (just a joke!)

Keep getting "Unknown exception processing event" when handling a trap as an event.

Hello List,

When having defined an event to catch a trap that comes in to OpenNMS,
I keep receiving this message:

EventHandler: Unknown exception processing event
java.lang.NullPointerException

I decoded a MIB and implemented some events for it in eventconf.xml
filtering on the variable values of the trap coming in. As far as I
know I kept all the rules referring to the variables.

What can be wrong?

Thanks, Enrique Gonzalez.

It would help if we had some more information. What version of
OpenNMS are you running. Can you capture the trap that is coming in?
Could you paste more of the log file so we can get an idea of the
trap that is causing the event?

errors when running "install -y -w..."

Hi,

I am new to openNMS, appreciate if anyone can help me out...

I set up following on RHEL4.0.

JDK 1.5.0 Update 12
Tomcat 5.5.23
Postgresql 7.4.17
rrdtool 1.2.18
OpenNMS 1.3.3

did all the installation steps as instructed in opneNMS's online docs, almost got everything setup except
when I run:

#./install -y -w $CATALINA_HOME/conf/Catalina/localhost

It throws me errors:

Is CATALINA_HOME defined?

echo $CATALINA_HOME

also, did you install the opennms-webapp package? There should be an /
opt/opennms/webapps/opennms directory.

Re: errors when running "install -y -w..."

Created the dir /opt/opennms/webapps/opennms, able to see the "successfully installed" msgs now, but
unable to see any files were copied underneath this dir.

Link file was created as below though:

# ls -la /opt/tomcat/conf/Catalina/localhost/opennms.xml
lrwxrwxrwx  1 root root 49 Jul  3 13:46 /opt/tomcat/conf/Catalina/localhost/opennms.xml -> /opt/opennms/webapps/opennms/META-INF/context.xml

Still looking on it...

Re: errors when running "install -y -w..."

Oh sorry I missed the email,

Yes, I went ahead to install opennms-webapp and the dir is being created now.
(I thought the webapps is created by ./install -y -w :p)

Thanks a lot!!
