Install problems on CenOS4

I am trying to install opennms frrom source and install works but when i try to start up opennms i get the following error

Could not initialize RrdUtils: /opt/opennms/lib/libjrrd.so: Can't load IA 32-bit .so on a IA 32-bit platform
java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /opt/opennms/lib/libjrrd.so: Can't load IA 32-bit .so on a IA 32-bit platform

Any help would be appreciated.
OS : CentOS 4.4
opennms 1.2.9

java version "1.5.0_10"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_10-b03)
Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 1.5.0_10-b03, mixed mode)

Could not initialize IcmpSocket: null

This is a new install:

Fedora core 5
OpenNMS 1.2.9
Postgresql 8.1.3
Tomcat 4.1.18
Java SDK= j2sdk1.4.2_13

I've gone through the setup steps numerous times and I keep ending up with 
this error with I run /etc/init.d/opennms start

Could not initialize IcmpSocket:  null
java.lang.NoSuchFieldError
   <<No stacktrace available>>

I can ping other devices on the network just fine, but I keep receiving this 
error no matter what I try.

Any assistance is GREATLY appreciated.

iplike.so permission denied


                     i have installed pgsql8.* on fc3 .. it has installed 
well and test was successful.

and  opennms-1.2.9-1

                            while installing opennms i run the installer 
#./installer -disU..     this lead to ca certain error regarding iplike.so 
permission denied.

This particular error is covered in the troubleshooting section of  
the install guide (section 6.1.10 to be exact).

Postgresql error

Hi,

How do I recover from this postgresql install error, 
There is a item in the install but I'm not sure how to clear 
the permission problem:

/opt/OpenNMS/lib/iplike.so: failed to map segment from shared object: Permission denied 

I am recent to linux but determined.

Did you run the install command as the root user? The installer has to have permission to modify the files in
the /var/lib/pgsql directory. If so, you might want to check out the troubleshooting section of the
install guide:

Java Installation Fail

I have been attempting to install OpenNMS on a Debian system;

there are a number of downloads - I downloaded all;

jre-1_5_0_10-linux-i586.bin and jdk-1_5_0_10-linux-i586.bin

When I run the command "fakeroot make-jpkg jdk-*.bin " I get the
following error;
