That is an amazing OID.

You need to edit eventconf.xml and include an entry for this event.

newbie install question: opennms-global.properties

I am trying to install OpenNMS on Solaris 2.6, I have everything else
installed but am stuck on getting OpenNMS installed.

In the installation instructions it says:

"In order to let OpenNMS know where libraries and includes live, you will
need to create an ~/.opennms-global.properties file."

How _exactly_ do you create a file with '~/.' ??

Thanks!

Charles

Uh ...

cp build.properties ~/.opennms-global.properties file
vi ~/.opennms-global.properties file

The "~" is shorthand for your home directory.

installation problems on Suse Linux with source dist

Hi there.

I tried to install OpenNMS on my Suse Linux 8.0 distro.
I have the source of OpenNMS.

I could get it work once, but then I had the problem that I could not
login with the admin/admin. I put it aside for a while and today does
not work at all anymore. I had a reboot in between (new Networkcard)

The first problem I had was that a symbolic link in
$TOMCAT_HOME/server/lib/jdbc2_0-stdext.jar pointed to
$OPENNMS_HOME/lib/jdbc2_0-stdext.jar but this does not exist. That was
causing Tomcat not to start. I found jdbc2_0-stdext.jar in
$TOMCAT_HOME/common/lib/jdbc2_0-stdext.jar and changed the symbolic
link. Voila, Tomcat starts again.

When I try to go to server:8080/opennms I get the following error now:

HTTP Status 404 - /opennms

type Status report
message /opennms
description The requested resource (/opennms) is not available

Apache Tomcat/4.1.12

I'm a newbie concerning Tomcat but quite expirienced with Linux ... it
seems to me that Tomcat does not now what to do with /opennms ... or
that this is not configured ...

In /var/tomcat4/conf/server.xml (/var/tomcat4 is a symbolic link to
/usr/local/jakarta-tomcat4.0) I have

 <Context path="/opennms" docBase="opennms" debug="0" reloadable="true">
         <Logger className="org.opennms.web.log.Log4JLogger"
homeDir="/opt/OpenNMS/"/>
         <Realm
className="org.opennms.web.authenticate.OpenNMSTomcatRealm"
homeDir="/opt/OpenNMS/"/>
        </Context>

the dirs where first pointing to /usr/src/opennms-1.0.1-1/source/dist
which is where I unpacked the tar.gz file originally .. I changed that
but it still does not work.

PostgreSQL 7.2.2 is running
Tomcat4.1.12 is running
Apache 1.3.27 is running
and $OPENNMS_HOME/bin/opennms.sh status gives me:

OpenNMS.Eventd         : starting
OpenNMS.Trapd          : starting
OpenNMS.Dhcpd          : running
OpenNMS.Actiond        : running
OpenNMS.Capsd          : starting
OpenNMS.Notifd         : running
OpenNMS.Outaged        : starting
OpenNMS.Rtcd           : starting
OpenNMS.Pollerd        : starting
OpenNMS.Collectd       : starting
OpenNMS.Threshd        : starting
OpenNMS.Discovery      : starting

Anyone knows what I'm doing wrong?

This looks like beeing OK. I am having the same problem. Tried first with
OpenNMS six weeks ago. No-one could help out until now...

OpenNMS doesn't work with tomcat 4.1.x. Internals changed requiring
adaptions to jsp applications. OpenNMS isn't adapted jet. Use tomcat 4.0.4
(or 4.0.5) this works --- except you will not be able to login...

The login problem might be solved if someone could tell me how to turn off
authentification for /opennms. I'm not too experienced with tomcat. How do
I turn authentification off? Maybe I'll get that bug that way!

Tomcat Internal Server Error

Hello,

I have seen this error reported in the archives but no replies.
Basically I have a few switches/routers that I can run SNMP reports
on. The last router I added however generates an error below when I
select "SNMP Performance". If however, I select the interface and then
run SNMP Performance it works okay. It is like it can't look up the
interfaces and generate the interface selection menu.

I was just curious if people who have this kind of problem have tried to use
        server:8080/opennms/
where the "/" is expicitly added at the end. Although I am not using this configuration, there are times where I've needed to add the / at the end, particularly if it is a first connection to opennms.

Okay. If you have an admin/admin login issue, it means something is wrong
with your install. It is not a bug in the code or a problem with the
password not being defined. It means that your tomcat configuration is not
correct.

1) Make sure postgres is running and that "psql -U opennms opennms" gives
you access to the database. Use "\q" to quit.

2) Make sure the Xerces jar file is in TOMCAT_HOME/common/lib

3) Using either the Debian FAQ entry or SuSE How-to, make sure that the
symbolic links to the OpenNMS jar files exist.

4) Your server.xml file contains the entries for opennms. Again, see the
above references for how to set this up.

Someone posted this solution awhile back, but I can't find it at the
moment. It should be in the archives.
