[opennms-discuss] % disk space used or % disk free space thresholds

Hi all,

How can I configure ONMS to monitor and alarm percentual disk space used or percentual free space ?

Usually, SNMP gives me only the space used in KB and the storage capacity, also in KB. I know that a simple math can give me the percentual value I want, but how do I put this into ONMS?

Thank you.

Mario

Re: [opennms-discuss] % disk space used or % disk free space thresholds

for % used:
in your threshholds.xml file
             <threshold type="high" ds-name="ns-disk-1-pct" ds-type="node" value="90" rearm="88" trigger="1" />
see datacollection-config.xml for all the ns-disk- values

Re: [opennms-discuss] % disk space used or % disk free space thresholds

You can install SNMP Informant which will then give you access to an SNMP value for % space available.  You can find the free version of SNMP Informant at http://www.snmp-informant.com/.

Using Informant, by default ONMS sends an alert each time the disk space used reachs 95%. Works very fine.

[opennms-discuss] SNMP collection problem

I'm using OpenNMS to monitor a set of Windows boxes with the free
Informant MIB. My problem is that I'm getting a lot of data dropouts,
which is making the threshold alarms unreliable.

In the collectd logs, I see a lot of messages such as:

2007-03-01 23:08:03,434 DEBUG [DefaultUDPTransportMapping_127.0.0.1/0] Snmp4JWalker: Received a
tracker pdu of type RESPONSE from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx of size 10 errorStatus = General
variable binding error errorIndex = 2
2007-03-01 23:08:03,434 WARN [DefaultUDPTransportMapping_127.0.0.1/0] SnmpNodeCollector: genErr
collecting data for node xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx: Received genErr reqeusting oid .1.3.6.1.2.1.25.1.5.
Marking column is finished.

I'm only getting these messages from the Windows boxes, none from Linux
hosts being monitored. I couldn't find any information about the SNMP
General Error, other than that it's a catch-all.

I'm assuming these errors are causing the data dropouts. Does anybody
know what is causing these errors, or how I could go about figuring it
out?

Thanks.

Andrew

Re: [opennms-discuss] SNMP collection problem

For the sake of the archive, I'll answer my own question:

I turned up the timeout in snmp-config.xml and the dropouts in the data
and errors in the logs went away.

We just found out about this:

We're incredibly excited, since this was based on a user survey and

Hi,

When starting up ONMS I see this in the web.log and many other related

I haven't been able to track down the root cause.
