Git Repositories Moved

The OpenNMS Git Repositories have moved! The SourceForge repositories
have been kept as read-only, but if you wish to get future updates,
you will have to switch to the new repositories on GitHub.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Updating Your Git Clone: Read-Only Access
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For read-only access, you can switch your git clone to the new origin by
running the following command:

  git remote set-url origin git://github.com/OpenNMS/opennms.git

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Updating Your Git Clone: Write Access (for OpenNMS Developers)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you have read-write access, create a github account, then change your
origin by running the following command:

  git remote set-url origin git <at> github.com:OpenNMS/opennms.git

If you are an OGP member (or should otherwise have write access to the
repository) and you are unable to push to the new github repository,
please contact ranger <at> opennms.org with your github account name and he
will give you access.

ONMS to SEND a syslog

Sound Solutions, Inc.
8400 Highland Dr.
Wausau, WI 54401
Tel: 715-842-7665
Fax: 715-842-7620

Hello Fellow ONMS people….

Does anyone have a way to have opennms send a syslog  OUT as a notification? Inbound syslog was easy…but all I can find on the outbound syslog capabilities is a post from David in 2008 referring to the notificationcommands.xml.  I look and there is no syslog in there.

Basically, instead of sending an email….we need opennms to send a syslog to another device.

All insight is appreciated.

Thanks

Upcoming OpenNMS Events

Gang:

Just a few reminders:

We are having training at the Red Hat Headquarters in London later this
month:

http://www.opennms.com/training

There are still a few seats left so if you have been wanting to get up

opportunity. The next training in the US will be in April.

Speaking of training, the biggest OpenNMS event of the year, the OpenNMS
Users Conference will be held in March at the University of Fulda in
Germany. This is a great opportunity to learn about the latest in
OpenNMS as well as to meet the people behind the project.

Early bird registration ends on 15 January:

Hope to see you at one or more of these events.

OpenNMS is Hiring!

I hope everyone had a great holiday. I enjoyed it, but I did miss
getting a couple of gifts: two top-notch Java developers.

OpenNMS is hiring. In our quest to become the de facto network
management platform of choice, we've experienced an increased demand for
new features and we are now in a position to hire a couple of new
developers. We are are looking for both a senior and a more junior
person to join our close-knit team to make OpenNMS the best it can be.

If you are interested, you should have wicked Java skills and be able to
demonstrate how you've used them over the years. OpenNMS heavily
leverages the Spring Framework, as well as Hibernate, and we use Maven
to build it all. Other technologies we use are (but not limited to)
OSGi, Google Web Toolkit (GWT), Jetty, JBoss, Vaadin and Karaf. Yes, we
like to play will all the new Java toys.

We also rely on junit tests, so knowledge of Agile methods such as test
driven development are a big plus. We are a network management solutions
company, so experience with similar products and things like SNMP is
valuable. Open source experience will earn you even more points.

For the senior position, you should have that and more (grin).

As one would expect with a job like this, we are looking for people used
to being self-directed - we have a pretty flat management structure.

Other things we have: a awesome team. You will be able to work in either
the Pittsboro, North Carolina office or the Marietta, Georgia office
with some of the best people in the business. OpenNMS has no outside
investment and we have an 8 year track record of 25%-40% year over year
revenue growth. Our business plan is "Spend Less Than You Earn". This
allows us to be focused on our customers, which are spread out over 25
countries, and our mission statement is "Help Customers, Have Fun, Make
Money".

Since we want our mission to be successful, we do try to take your mind
off the small stuff with full health benefits, profit sharing, a 401K
plan, and great holiday and vacation policies. We also don't scrimp on
computer equipment. While there are those of us who travel a lot, this
position will require minimal travel.

To help us in our quest to find the brightest and the best, we have
retained the services FORTUNE Personnel Consultants. If you are
interested, please contact David Cole at david.cole <at> fpcraleigh.com or +1
(919) 760 3016.

You can also check out http://issues.opennms.com and fix a bug or two.
That's always a good way to get our attention.

OpenNMS Training in 2013

Gang:

Hot on the heels of yesterday's announcement of the OpenNMS Foundation,
I wanted to point out that we have a lot of training scheduled in 2013.

The next class will be held at Red Hat's London Headquarters the last
week in January. Red Hat has been very kind to offer us the use of their
mobile classroom laptops as well as a conference room in the heart of
London. Space is limited, so if this interests you please register soon.

In February, our partner in Germany, Nethinks, is offering training for
the first time in the German language. They have scheduled three classes
next year in Fulda.

In April we will have our first training course at OpenNMS headquarters
in the US. We will have two or three more classes next year, depending
on interest, but April is the first one on the schedule.

More information can be found at http://www.opennms.com/training.

And don't forget that there will also be training opportunities at the
User Conference in March: http://www.opennms.eu.

Hope to see you at one of these events.

The OpenNMS Foundation Independent Users Group

Gang:

It is with great pleasure that I can announce the formation of an
independent OpenNMS users group called the OpenNMS Foundation:

http://www.adventuresinoss.com/?p=2925

If you are reading this, you are already in at least some small part a
member of the OpenNMS community. I am hoping this Foundation will both
make you more confident about using OpenNMS as well as getting more
involved.

Hope to see you in Fulda in March.

Bughunting - alarm memo feature

Hi there,

we developed a small enhancement to the alarm handling workflow in the
WebUI. The development part was mainly driven in the master bleeding
edge branch. The use case was requested many times so the OpenNMS gang
gave green light to backport this feature to the 1.10 branch which
should be end up in a stable release.

In summary the feature allows to document alarms over the WebUI and
added two new fields in the alarm detail view. The first field, called a
sticky memo, is assigned exactly to this alarm and can give additional
information about an ongoing outage. The second field is a journal memo
which is assigned to a resolved reduction key. So it is possible to give
additional documentation on a whole class of alarms. The feature is
documented in the OpenNMS Wiki [1] and is available in 1.10.7-SNAPSHOT
and bleeding edge master and is in the queue for the next stable release
minor release of OpenNMS.

We are happy about real-world experience and bug reports in our issue
tracker [2] about this feature. So you could be a part to improve it.

Please feel free to give feedback on opennms-discuss [3] mailing list.

Thank you for listening have nice un-notified weekend.

OpenNMS Training the in United Kingdom in September

Gang:

Just a heads up that we will be offering official OpenNMS training at
the University of Southampton this September:

http://www.opennms.com/training/

OpenNMS training is the fastest way to come up to speed on OpenNMS, and
we hope that by providing it in the UK it will be more convenient than
the US for many of you.

-T

P.S. We are working to schedule training in California for October. I'll
send out a note as soon as we have confirmed the details.

Users Conference Europe 2013 Planning

Gang:

Just a quick note that we are beginning to plan for the fifth annual
OpenNMS users conference to be held in 2013.

At the last conference we came up with a European users group mailing list:

https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/opennms-europe

and we hope to involve as many people in the planning process as
possible. If you are interested in becoming involved in a Europe-based
users group, please sign up to the list, which at the moment is very low
traffic.

Also, just a reminder that there is still time to register for the
America's user conference:
