[opennic-discuss] T1 server setup

I sent this e-mail to the dns-operations mailing list (still active?) but received no reply, so I'm hoping
someone here could give a little help:

"The following question has probably been asked a billion times, but I did not see a FAQ for this list &
response is slow on irc. I have a site address under the .free TLD, am set to use local name servers, & have it
slaved in my default zones. I went through the steps to make my computer a Tier1 server, but noted that my
site (freespeech.free) was not listed in my free.zone file & it doesn't appear accessible. I imagine
there is a step I am missing (dnskey or static ip?), or did I misstep & don't need to be listed there for my site
to be resolved by others?"

Thanks in advance for the help,

Dale

Re: [opennic-discuss] T1 server setup

Actually, you tried to post to both this list and the other without being a
member of the list. You also received an email explaining this.

I have subscribed you to this list (because you were almost there anyway)
but you will need to subscribe yourself to any other lists you may want to
join.

Uhmm a Tier1 is a server who offer a zone, you are a user who want to put a
domain... the DNS itself just do a response to the petitions...
the thing is, your hosting give you a DNS IP, you need to put it in the
registrar you are using, in this case it's the .free TLD who come from
http://reg.for.free

So, you need to check what values are you using in your hosting...

Re: [opennic-discuss] T1 server setup

Maximiliano,

Thanks for your response. Sounds like I was, as we say in the US; "barking up the wrong tree". But when I go to my
admin area at http://reg.for.free/manage/ to manage my freespeech.free site, exactly where do I put my
server's IP address? Every area I look at seems to be addressing name server settings.

[opennic-discuss] Mailing Lists

Hello everyone.

I would like to remind you all that this is a public list. It always has
been a public list and for the foreseeable future will remain a public
list. Thus, if you have some sort of reservations about your email address
being discovered by google then you may also reconsider posting to it.

Thanks,
Alex

Re: [opennic-discuss] T1 server setup

Maximiliano,

Sorry but I didn't read your e-mail clearly enough. So it sounds like I need to find out from my ISP what my "DNS
IP" is, which I'm assuming is different then my server ip. So I will check into that & get back to you if there
are any further problems.

 Thanks again,

Dale

Re: [opennic-discuss] Mailing Lists

Thanks for that information.

Does this mean spammers can easily harvest our addresses and are there other privacy concerns?

If I was to unsubscribe, would my address and messages stay in the database or could they be removed?

Re: [opennic-discuss] T1 server setup

A T1 Server is a server that hosts TLD Zones.
T2 Servers Mirror those root zones and are for use by the general public.
You need to make a Domain Zone, on your DNS (as well as rid yourself of your T1 config, as it's not needed), and
enable transferring of your zone to the T1 Server for the .free TLD.

Gname is the only search result for your email address. Pretty easy to
harvest from there.

Re: [opennic-discuss] Mailing Lists

Sorry Julian, I don't understand what you mean?

I am assuming that all emails sent to this list are visible to the world and thus google? If so, then the
archives can be scanned for addresses, am I right?

If I am and I unsubscribed, would all my messages (and so my address) be removed from the archive? If not could
they be?

Thanks, Peter
