[opennic-discuss] Featured Group - Freenode

Hey guys!

Freenode is starting a new "featured group" thing that will be
featured on their blog or website (not sure which yet) and will last
for one month. I was wondering if the general OpenNIC would be
interested in applying for this?

Here are some questions we need to think about...

>If someone wrote the group's [auto]biography, what would it say?
>What things does your group do really well? Where does it need help?
>Who are the key people, and what are they like?
>Where does your community hang out?
>Why is your group interesting? Why do you participate in /that/ group?
>Why would I want to participate in your group?
>What's different about your group, from every other free software project out there?
>If your group could accomplish one goal, and then stop development, what would that goal be?
>What makes your community unique?
>What is an interesting moment in your group?

Let me know! Discuss away! I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts on the
matter. :)

I'm with an open source project that is going on 4 years now waiting
for its Freenode group application to be approved. "Any day now" is
what I hear, which translates to "only if you pony up the cash." I
wouldn't be surprised if this turns out to be the same deal.

I personally wouldn't waste the time.

Actually, I'm (we?) are part of the Group Advisory Board. So I am pretty
confident in it happening. Considering the activity on that mailing list and
in their channel. :)

Re: [opennic-discuss] Featured Group - Freenode

Brian: I waited two months (maybe it was longer, but still patient
either way) and asked an admin for a project cloak, in order to get
it, that application had to be approved, so (s)he approved it on the
spot, applied the cloak after that, no money handed over (well, none
they could say was linked to the project, that is)

Alex: Love the idea, I'll email some answers soon (barely keeping up
in reading the lists lately, let alone replying)
