[opennic-discuss] Issues migration from Mantis to RT complete

I've completed migrating all issues from Mantis to RT3. Please do
*not* use the Mantis issue tracker for creating new issues! Instead,
use the RT3 tracker at http://pop.jdcomputers.com.au/rt.

There are plenty of issues to be worked, so do visit and see if
there's anything of interest you'd like to work on. Even comments on
existing issues are useful.

All support questions for the new tracker should be directed to
Julian. The old tracker will be decommissioned shortly.

Re: [opennic-discuss] Moving forward

We had discussed about the new opennic.glue before. Unfortunately, trying to get my summer started, very little work has been progressed. I'm going to try to pick up on it next week (or later this week).

Also, on my part as a TLD operator, .null's registration & management system will be up within a month (heh, I just kept changing my mind).

I am not looking at what OpenNIC will be in say 5yrs time. I am looking at what OpenNIC will be in 1yrs time. I see OpenNIC being a stable project with solid foundations. A solid foundation for OpenNIC would inlcude user interfaces the community is happy with and performs what OpenNIC requires. It would include a comphrehensive list of polices on various issues and a completed charter.

I have joted down what I think needs to happen first to sucessfully complete the building of a solid foundation;

- New Public Website - Webmastering
       - Should be simple
       - Should inlcude;
               - What OpenNIC is about
               - How to get access to the OpenNIC nameserver
               - How to obtain support

We need a new public website because ours is no longer original. How can we define ourselves with a website that looks exactly the same as another alt root.....

- New http://www.opennic.glue Website - Webmastering
       - Should be user freindly
       - Easy to use
       - Allow user interaction
       - Cater for voting and other OpenNIC functions
       - Transfer current user base to it
       - Be the official place to count OpenNIC membership
       - Have a forum function built in, not a seperate site

People have voiced they are not happy with the current site we use. So a replacement is required.

- OpenNIC open domain registry system intergrated with the current python whois package - Architecture
       - Be offered as a solution for TLD operators to use for domain registration
       - Be flexiable in allowing for other sites to also register domain names in TLDs the webmaster does not contro (I.E www.opennicdomains.geek can offer domain reigstrations for .geek)
       - Interface into the current whois server

In order for use to start being accepted by the public we need a easy way for our users to register OpenNIC domain names. Currently we have great TLDs, but all of them (bar .oss) are hard to register a domain with. Once this is fixed, I am sure we will see an influx in the domains registered within OpenNIC.

I have added the above ideas as tasks on the wiki (http://wiki.opennic.glue) under ther working group listed next to the idea. Please feel free to add points to what you think the project should accomplish like I have, the more comprehensive the points the better the end project should be.

Now here is what I ask, my vision for OpenNIC for the next yr is to complete the above three tasks. I beg anyone with experience in those areas, please join the respective working group and take charge of the project! Start a new wiki page dedicated to the task you choose. This is our chance to work as a team and get something done! Anyone in previous threads who had something to say about OpenNIC they did not like, here is your great chance to put that talk into action.

I only got one response to this email? Does anyone else have input? Any one going to actually help out and take up a task and help OpenNIC move forward?

[opennic-discuss] Firefox 3

I just figured I'd remind everyone.

I figure a lot of you are Firefox Users and a fair chunk of you probably already know this. Firefox 3 was released today! So head on over to http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ and grab your copy.

They are also trying to break a record of most downloads in a day for Guinness World Records.

May I suggest that you put you name down on the WIKI project page for
the glue site, as to keep others informed as to whom the members of
the project are.

Communication is the key to teamwork.

There has to be some members who are able to work on the tasks set
forth. I for one am unable to do so, due to lack of skills.

With out these tasks getting started, there is no way I can see
OpenNIC moving forward into the future.

[opennic-discuss] Hi folks

Hi folks,

It's quite a while ago that I've been active on OpenNIC. I've been busy with a lot of other stuff, and yeah with that gmail ban...
But I'm back now with a recent new (currently expanding) toolset for rapid development of web apps and back to make awnsers.
Julian, sorry it took me so long... ;)

Peeps, what's happening all over the OpenNIC?

Greets,
-Anner.
