I'm not dead yet!

Sorry I haven't had time for working on the project lately. Between a funeral for a grandfather, trying to
take care of yard work, dealing with plumbing problems, some emergency reconstruction on my servers, and
now trying to recover data after my RAID5 dumped two drives (which is not going well -- suggestions
appriciated!) I just haven't had any time for doing any of the 'fun' stuff on my servers.

I still intend on creating a test-bed for working on the DNS server redundancy issue, just as soon as I get a chance...

IRC channel

Hello again...

I haven't been active in the DNS project for the past month or so, but I
plan to devote some more time to it now. I've set up an IRC channel at
irc.freenic.org #nic for OpenNIC/FreeNIC related discussion. Anyone
who's interested is welcome to join.

shoutz to Avo, Ron and Alex - I'm back, how's it going y'all?

Re: IRC channel

There's already one set up on freenode (#opennic). Do we really need
two IRC channels?

Audit Team Status

Audit Team Update:

The Audit team has been very busy organizing and testing the Auditing
systems. We have finally decided on the Auditing package we will be
using. This email is purely to inform the mailing list of the status of
the Audit team, and hopefully bring some more life to OpenNIC.

The Audit team has decided on using a packaged named Nagios [0] for the
auditing backend. We believe that Nagios is the perfect package to use,
as it gives us more power to montior the Opennic network, and pinpoint
problems more accurately.

By using Nagios, we are now able to let the system email the appropriate
teams in case of a failure, and then a follow up email when the system
returns to normal.

So as you can see, the finished system is going to be very powerful in
regards to reporting and monitoring the overall health of hte opennic
network.

What we still require from the list is this:

  - An email from all TLD admins to confirm they want alert emails sent
  - Robin to setup our DNS records for the Audit servers
  - A re-listing of all the teams

Also to come very shortly will be the new WIKI. Brainko is going to be
overseeing this project.

Audit Team

Tier 2 removed

Hi,

For some reasons, I need to stop to provide the tier 2 server
ns1.be.opennic.glue. Is it possible to remove it from the website.

Thanks

Cédric

What's next with the wiki?

With the assistance of Julian (who has also graciously volunteered to
host), I've set up an OpenNIC wiki. Before I start organizing things
on the new wiki, I need some input as to what folks expect to be on
the wiki, or what they believe it should be used for. Here are some
questions that come to mind:

1. What does the future hold for the scoop blog? Should we start
migrating information over to the wiki from there? Is there anybody
around who is actually maintaing that site?

2. Ditto for the website...

3. Do the various teams want to use the wiki as a place to coordinate
their business?

4. What would folks like to see the wiki used for besides those
things mentioned above?

BTW, if anyone would like to assist in creating new content or
migrating over existing content, please feel free to jump right in!
For now, edit privileges are open to registered users, and I see no
reason to change this policy unless we have problems down the road.
I'll try to keep things organized, so don't be offended if I shuffle
something around that you've posted.

It might be useful to at least let me know what you plan on doing so I
can make sure no one else is working on the same thing.

Thanks to you both.

I happen to like the existing website, but the wiki will be easier to
maintain, and can generate useful input and discussion.

I think this would be an asseet to the team, its members, and the
community.

I see documentation and standards & specifications for different aspects
of operating OpenNIC and TLDs .... DNS configuration requirements for
different tier hosts; etc.

Possibly it could also support pages or sections describing the purposes
and policies of individual TLDs, with key gateway links into their
namespaces.

and you'll publish a URI for it when you're ready, I trust <s>

I figured everyone here was smart enough to figure that one out on
their own!

Great work Brian! The wiki layout looks great!

Now this is where we need your help! This is what will be needed:

- Email from users saying what team they belong to or wish to belong to
- Email from TLD admins so they can be listed. Need to also include
contact information
- Feedback from Robin

Do we need to discuss a roadmap fro the Opennic project?

Any and all feedback is welcome/encouraged.

Julian
