Re: ICANN grows balls...

Ever look at the ICANN schedule? If ICANN hadn't gotten rid of the 'elected'
position I'd run with the slogan "Elect me, I need a vacation!"

Hey, I'm just glad they're actually doing something about it. Maybe
ICANN does have a little brain for the money they suck in.

TLD Bind Setup

I've been Contemplating attempting to set this up on my personal name
server but I've also seen other TLD's available from

open-rsc.org
namespace.org
new.net
as well as
opennic.unrated.net

My question is this:
Is it possible to combine all these services to have the most widely
available DNS for TLD's ?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks.

You should probably check out PacRoot at http://www.PacificRoot.NET/
They have the widest range of peered TLDs, basically any active
non-colliding TLD should be peered there...

Verisign's response to ICANN growing balls...

Subject: [RegistrarsList] VeriSign NDS Response to Suspension of Site

To All Registrars,

I am writing to update you on VeriSigns Site Finder service. On Friday,
October 3rd, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers
(ICANN) directed VeriSign, Inc., to temporarily suspend service no later
than 6PM PST, Saturday, October 4. VeriSign requested an extension from
ICANN for 3 additional days for the shut down in order to provide the
technical community time to make any necessary system changes.
Unfortunately, ICANN refused this request. Accordingly, in response to
this demand, VeriSign is temporarily suspending the Site Finder service
as of Saturday, October 4 at 6PM PST.

In suspending the service, VeriSign will remove the wildcard A records
from the .com and .net zones and revert to the former behavior for these
zones which is returning Name Error/RCODE=3 in response to queries for
nonexistent domain names.

VeriSign remains committed to improving the Internet user experience.
We look forward to providing the Site Finder service following this
suspension. Thank you for your business. We greatly value our
relationship with you.

... and it's impossible to renew you domains online, and they seem
to have been taken over by another registrar.

Re: Verisign's response to ICANN growing balls...

An extention "to provide the technical community time to make any
necessary system changes"? Are they serious? What changes does the
technical community need to make? I'm at a loss of words here. As if
everyone needs to make changes to compensate for the loss of such a
valuable service.

And that whole "Internet user experience" crap is getting annoying. Yes,
it's a cliche, but the Web is not the Internet! Argh.
