Its not a modern thing... its called paranoid mode (at least for sendmail)
where the remote wants the A and PTR dns to match. Your IP reverse is

43.118.164.24.in-addr.arpa. 64152 IN PTR net24-164-118-043.neo.rr.com.

so when the remote tries to match that against your HELO (probably
mail.anari.null) it fails. Since you can't do anything about your reverse
(unless RoadRunner is nicer than AT&T) you need to modify your HELO line to
be net24-164-118-043.neo.rr.com. In qmail I would do this by setting the
"me" file. In Sendmail I don't know how you'd do it but good search terms
are probably "Sendmail HELO change".

This is not the issue.

The issue is that many SMTP receivers check to see if the sending domain
exists (by looking for an A or MX record) before accepting the MAIL FROM
command.

For servers who cannot "see" OpenNIC space, OpenNIC domains do not exist.

hrm... neither one appears to accept "vnc.paradon.null" as a reverse domain name.

Re: OpenNIC Discuss: support on irc servers

Well, it seems to be resolved (on geneva.ch.eu.undernet.org)

[root <at> minotor]-~ >nslookup vnc.paradon.null
Server: localhost
Address: 127.0.0.1

Name: vnc.paradon.null
Address: 202.37.90.138

[root <at> minotor]-~ >nslookup 202.37.90.138
Server: localhost
Address: 127.0.0.1

Name: vnc.paradon.null
Address: 202.37.90.138

[root <at> minotor]-~ >

try to reconnect, sometimes when dns takes too long ircd connects the user
without hostname. then you just need to disconnect/reconnect and at this
time the dns server has it in cache and the query in much faster and ircd
will be happy :-). Please retry, from my point of view, there is no reason
is should not work.

Add gerrold.freenode.net (ipv6-only) and ... forget the other one ... to
the list. (-:

OpenNIC Discuss: NewsFactor article on Yahoo

Hello,

Someone pointed me to this link today:
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&cid=75&u=/nf/20021125/tc_nf/200
76&printer=1.
It's the same article from NewsFactor but Yahoo somehow syndicated it.
Interesting,
to say the least. It'd be interesting to know how many people access
OpenNIC's site
from Yahoo's article.

Thanks,

OpenNIC Discuss: OpenNIC Email from Legacy Users

Hi all,

Hope this message gets through. Been having a tad bit of a hard time setting
up email again, since I had to strip the server bare...(in short, mod_php
crashed apache when compiled from scratch, so I uninstalled all the
third-party packages and reinstalled the bare minimum...works like a charm
now <-: ).

Anyway, I seem recall that in addition to the OpenNIC proxy there was an email
service some kind soul offered for legacy root users? Does anyone happen to
recall the domain for it? I can't find anything helpful in Google cache,
unless of course I've just lost my mind (which is entirely possible)...

Thanks,
Aaron

Ok, that's what I thought but I wasn't sure...thanks. And excuse the
second email, I could have sworn the first's error fatal.
