Re: ofa_1_5_kernel 20110801-0200 daily build status

Hey Vlad,

The release notes for OFED-1.5.3.1 only claim upstream kernels from 2.6.29 and above. Should we really
bother with
building against older upstream kernels?

Snipit from the release notes:

   o   Linux Operating Systems:
         - RedHat EL5 up4        2.6.18-164.el5
         - RedHat EL5 up5        2.6.18-194.el5
         - RedHat EL5 up6        2.6.18-238.el5
         - RedHat EL6            2.6.32-71.el6
         - SLES10 SP3            2.6.16.60-0.54-smp
         - SLES11                2.6.27.19-5-default
         - SLES11 SP1            2.6.32.12-0.7-default

         - CentOS5.5             2.6.18-194.el5
         - OpenSuSE 11.2         2.6.31.5-0.1-default *
         - kernel.org            2.6.29 - 2.6.36    *

I tried to build OFED-1.5.4-daily on Scientific Linux 6.1 with linux-3.0

Dear members,

Today I tried to build ofa_kernel-1.5.4.tgz (OFED-1.5.4-20110801-0600.tgz)
on Scientific Linux 6.1 (x86_64) with linux-3.0 Vanilla kernel.

And build passed. ( without '--with-cxgb3-mod' )
(But I just buid it, so I'm know sure It work fine or not.)

I copied configure option from vlad's ofa_1_5_kernel daily build status mail

Main purpose of this mail is to share this result.

And I'll appreciate if anyone tell me any information about OFED and Linux3.0
 1) Release plan
 2) Known problem
 3) Test result and so on….

Sincerely.

Build procedure.

tar xfz ./ofa_kernel-1.5.4.tgz
cd ofa_kernel-1.5.4

#
# copy backport patch from 2.6.39
#
pushd kernel_patches/backport/
cp -a 2.6.39 3.0
popd

What is the current version of mstflint?

Oren,

What is the current version of mstflint? Looking through the git tree I see that you fixed a bug which
resulted in kernel messages like this:

        2011-07-31 08:38:43 mstflint:3792 freeing invalid memtype fe900000-fe910000

I am trying to point RedHat to this fixed version (So that they can include it in RHEL 6.2) but I don't see any
tags in the git tree. Is the fix from commit 771c3d04c9a09a83c182037663032b1f53dbf87b "Fix unmap typo
bug" in a tagged and/or released version?

From the comments in the most recent commit it looks like the most current version is "MFT 2.7.0 build 20 (final)"?

Thanks,
Ira

2.6.29 and 2.6.30 kernel support

Hi All,

I am trying to back port Chelsio’s cxgb4 driver for 2.6.29 and 2.6.30 kernels to include them in coming OFED-1.5.4 release. I found that my ofed kernel is not getting configured for 2.6.29 and 2.6.30 kernels. i.e when i execute  “./configure <configure options>” it doesn’t apply any patches to any drivers. Release notes for OFED-1.5.4 says that supported kernels are from 2.6.29 to 2.6.39. I am able to configure kernels from 2.6.31 to 2.6.39.

Is this an expected behaviour or we require fixes in configure script?

Following are the steps i follow to generate ofed_kernel.tgz file and build ofed_kernel.

1.     [root <at> hpc-cn4  linux-2.6]# backports=none ./ofed_scripts/ofed_makedist.sh

<output removed>

2.     [root <at> hpc-cn4  linux-2.6]# tar xf ofed_kernel.tgz

3.     [root <at> hpc-cn4  linux-2.6]# cd ofed_kernel

4.     [root <at> hpc-cn4 ofed_kernel]# cat /etc/infiniband/info

prefix=/usr

Kernel=2.6.18-128.el5

Configure options: --with-core-mod --with-user_mad-mod

 --with-user_access-mod --with-addr_trans-mod --with-mthca-mod

 --with-mlx4-mod --with-mlx4_en-mod --with-cxgb3-mod

 --with-nes-mod --with-qib-mod --with-ipoib-mod --with-sdp-mod

 --with-srp-mod --with-srp-target-mod --with-rds-mod

 --with-nfsrdma-mod

5.     [root <at> hpc-cn4 ofed_kernel]# ./configure --with-core-mod --with-user_mad-mod

 --with-user_access-mod --with-addr_trans-mod --with-mthca-mod

 --with-mlx4-mod --with-mlx4_en-mod --with-cxgb3-mod

 --with-nes-mod --with-qib-mod --with-ipoib-mod

 --with-sdp-mod --with-srp-mod --with-srp-target-mod

 --with-rds-mod --with-nfsrdma-mod

<output removed>

6.     [root <at> hpc-cn4 ofed_kernel]# make && make install

<output removed>

[root <at> hpc-cn4 ofed_kernel]# reboot

Thanks,

Vipul
