You've got to be kidding, right?

Have you even considered editing those files?

Re: Negative log values

A value of -1 is usualy the result if no data can be collected.
Does MRTG report any errors?

Subject: [mrtg] Negative log values

I am using Paul Simmonson's method of using MRTG to monitor Windows
servers (extracting values from perfmon counters). On one network which
I have implemented this, it works really well. We have another network
which I'm going to monitor using the same method, and it's here I'm
having a strange problem.

I'm using exactly the same method to monitor the servers, on an
identical box, using the same version of MRTG with the same
configuration files, but what I'm finding is, is that the graphs (for
any server I try) do not show the correct performance data. Sometimes
they show a continuous green block with a value of 1, but nothing else.
I checked the associated log files, and they are listing negative
values.

Example:

Ok, so what is your lang set to? UTF-8 is not an
option. I think you can easily change it to something
like "en_US" and you'll be fine. Unless you need your
language set to UTF-8 (doubtful).

I have never set my language to UTF-8. It was set automatically. Could you
please tell me from where can I change the language?

filtering _vlxxx

Hi Everybody!

Easy question: how do I filter out VLAN configs from CISCO switches being created
via Cfgmaker? I tried to use * filter option, but it did not work for me... I must be
doing something wrong. Could someone post a sample of config with --if-filter=
implementation.

Kinds Regards,
Andrew W.

Andrew,

The example from the cfgmaker doc works well.

'--if-filter=($default_iftype && $if_admin)'

I have these filtered out, so am not sure what the type number is for
the VLANs off the top of my head. You can find it in the top of the
page that is generated, or in the .cfg file that is built before
filtering it out.

As an example, if you wanted to filter out ATM sub interfaces and
frame-relay, you could use:
'--if-filter=($if_type!=134 && $if_type!=32)'

You may also want to do some other checking like $if_ok, $if_admin,
etc...

This seems to be a problem on the box you're running cfgmaker on.

The box cannot create another outbound connection, perhaps you have too
much connections already.

This is not a problem of MRTG; if the platform is not functioning well,
cfgmaker cannot rely on it.
