If you convert to RRD database instead of log files, then the viewer (eg
Routers2.cgi) can view the RRD file and produce graphs any time you want.

Monitoring GIG and MEG ports on NORTEL environment

Hi, Everybody,

the exact monitoring of GIG and MEG Ports in Nortel passport switches. I am
still trying to solve the problem but still no luck.

Big Brother & MRTG 2.9.17/2.9.25

Recently Robert Andre Croteau posted a new mrtg.pl to integrate MRTG and
BB....

I have started on the integration, but this has led me to realise that MRTG
has an upgrade available, basically this is a really stupid question, but
how does one go about the upgrade and retain all the existing configuration?

Re: Big Brother & MRTG 2.9.17/2.9.25

I keep all my MRTG configs in /usr/local/etc/mrtg. When I install a given
version of MRTG, I install it to /usr/local/mrtg-2.9.17, for example, and
symlink from /usr/local/mrtg to that directory. All of my scripts and
configs and crontabs point to /usr/local/mrtg. When I install a new version
of MRTG, I install it to /usr/local/mrtg-2.9.25, for example. Then I run
something like the following command:

rm /usr/local/mrtg ; ln -s /usr/local/mrtg-2.9.25 /usr/local/mrtg

An upgrade like this requires some watching but is mostly seamless.

best regards,
James

MRTG and Catalyst 6000 Ports

Hi,

I have 4 Cisco 6513 Switches each with five 48-port modules..I would like MRTG to monitor all the ports on the
4 switches....(4*5*48=960 ports). Is there a way to automate this instead of me writing the config for
each page.....I want to do this with RRD...

Thanks,

Anthony

Perl problem with mySQL

Ok, while not exactly an MRTG problem, I want to use Perl/MySQL to grab
the currently monitored devices and interfaces (kept in a mysql db) and give
users options to view. If anyone feels like helping me, please p-mail me.

Basically, I can run (as root) from a command prompt a script to extract what
I want from mysql, but when I try to run the same script from a browser, I get
errors in my error_log about not being able to access a library. As far as I can
tell, my web server user (nobody) has access, but I keep getting errors...

Any help (as always) is greatly appreciated.

Paul

Not natively... But if the number of protocols you want to monitor is
limited, you can use CAR
to monitor them.

CAR allows you to write rules that can police or shape traffic. If you
police the traffic at larger than line speed, and then monitor the CAR mib
for bytes forwarded below threshhold, you will end up with an effective
monitoring solution.

If you want to look at all of the protocols, you should run flow-tools
instead.

Reason: (noSuchName) There is no such variable name in this MIB.

Re: OID (object identifier) for protocols for cisco routers

You need to use flowscan/cflowd or ntop if you want to get protocol statistics.
