Update on latest maintain release with php 5 support and other fixes

A few weeks back it was discussed that a maintain release may come up which brings it more up-to-date with php
5 support, etc.... Has there been any further progress on this?

Demo Version

What version is the demo running at http://maintaindemo.osuosl.org/

We just installed maintain-3.1.1 and it seems to be lacking some
features that the demo has. For example, we don't have "* DNS
Visibility" under "Create host"

Also, we lose the "id" from range.php?action=show_admin

https://ministry.eng.utah.edu/range.php?action=edit&id=
https://ministry.eng.utah.edu/range.php?action=split&id=
https://ministry.eng.utah.edu/range.php?action=merge&id=

Thanks.

Returning to maintain

Hi Maintain folks,

I haven't used Maintain in a long time, though I did use it heavily (and
contributed some patches) some years back (before 3.0).

I'm now checking it out again for use at a new company, and I have a
couple questions.

First, building dns seemed to work (after I figured out
installing/enabling the module) but building dhcp and vmps doesn't seem
to work correctly out of the box. Building DHCP gives this error, and
doesn't produce anything in build/ dir:
PHP Notice: Undefined variable: host in
/opt/maintain-3.0.0/modules/build_dhcp/build_dhcp.php on line 101
PHP Notice: Undefined variable: host in
/opt/maintain-3.0.0/modules/build_dhcp/build_dhcp.php on line 102
PHP Notice: Undefined variable: host in
/opt/maintain-3.0.0/modules/build_dhcp/build_dhcp.php on line 103
PHP Notice: Undefined variable: host in
/opt/maintain-3.0.0/modules/build_dhcp/build_dhcp.php on line 104
and vmps doesn't seem to do anything at all... no error messages and no
output in build/ dir.

My other question is, we currently have "shared-network blah {" in our
dhcpd config but I'm not sure how to get this information entered into
Maintain, or if it will be supported. (Some subnets exist on the same
vlan, so they need this construct for dhcp to work properly).

I'm also wondering how things are going in general for Maintain? Is it
still in active use at OSU? I notice there hasn't been a release in a

Where can I find CURRENT documentation?

Greetings,
I have been attempting to gather current data on the Maintain
project prior to attempting to implement it. The "INSTALL" doc
contained in the maintain-3.1.1 archive is dated 2007-01-31.
However, the file dates seem to indicate that the release is
is dated 2008-01-02. The maintain web site indicates the
"CURRENT" install doc is located here:
https://trac.osuosl.org/svn/maintain-project/trunk/INSTALL

This, unfortunately, is run off of TRAC which doesn't parse/
produce text documents properly. As a case in point;
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------- Maintain -- INSTALL ---------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
		  $Id: <name> <size> <date> <time> <maintainer> $
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

becomes:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------- Maintain -- INSTALL ---------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
		  $Id$
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why was TRAC chosen as opposed to a RCS with a longer history with
better testing/security?

Anyway, I'm simply trying to get CURRENT documentation without having to
checkout the trunk to my system.

Changing new host fields.

When you create a new host, you can put in such things as expiration date, Owner ID, Location, etc.

I was wondering how and where you can change those? I would still just be entering tracking data, but would
like to rename/prioritize the list for our internal teams use.

Is this easy to do? If so, what do I need to do?

Thank you,

Static IP range works but after split to create new dynamic range, it wont vend dynamic IPs

We have had maintain up and running for over a year. In our unique R&D environment we have no dynamic IPs. We
created our IP block: 10.0.1.0 to 10.0.4.255.

Have the proper subnet, had one workgroup created, had all IPs in the range in one range, had one domain, no
VLAN, default DHCP options, and our two name servers.

So, we would create a new host in the static IP range as a static reservation. No one could obviously get a
dynamic IP without a reservation, and everything worked fine.

Now we are wanting to take a small segment and make it dynamic. I have split the range 3 times, taken the middle
range of 100 IPs and made it dynamic. I have left all other options the same such as its in the same domain,
same workgroup, etc.

When i try to grab a dynamic IP, nothing is vended. I am not sure what is wrong or what could be happening.

Any advice or suggestions is greatly appreciated!

Re: ok my first maintain questions

Hi Michel,

I am not sure why you didn't send your questions to the list? I am not working on the Maintain project anymore. However, let me forward this to the list for you.

Dear Maintain developers, Michel is trying to install Maintain on a test server. Can you please help him to get it up and running?

Thanks,
Fred

Here are my first maintain questions:

I have installed maintain on one of our test server.
When I open my maintain page, I am prompt for the login.
I login... and I am back to the login page.
The logs only mention that the login page is displayed,
than the logout sequence is executed and finally the
     login page is displayed again.

     I am using the user/password I put into maintain.cfg
and I kept the same user/password for my sql db.

Any Idea how I can debug that ?  (the debug option was
turned on in maintain.cfg)...  Did I miss something ?

Another thing, I found 2 installation directives... one
on the wiki and another in the package if I recall correctly
They are different... that was kind of confusing !

Another point, the install instruction says that it is
beyoung the scope of the document to show how to install
a virtual server for maintain... As a newbe like me, it
would not hurt to give maybe a bare minimun config like
what is at the end of this email.

Finally, I think I read somewhere that a debian package
was on the way for maintain...  but I could not find it.
     Is is available somewhere ?

 Thanks
