Hey everyone,

I'm having a weird problem with one of our host that
JFFNMS is monitoring. I'll explain it the best I can.

I'm running JFFNMS on a windows box, and it's
monitoring 32 hosts with 380 interfaces. Everything
works great except for one host. The one problem host
is a Compaq Computer, running Windows 2000 Server.
JFFNMS is set to monitor 9 interfaces on it: Hard
Drive, Memory, Network Card, CPU, an Application we're
running, Two Fans, and Two Tempature systems. For a
long time it worked correctly. I'm not sure what's
happened now but it will first start by saying the
fans and tempature are down. If I tell JFFNMS not poll
those anymore, they go green and everything is ok.

The next time the poller runs though, it then says the
Application and network card are down. The weird thing
is if I tell them to go back to checking the fan and
the tempatures, the Application and Network card
show as running again. If I tell it not to check them
too, the CPU, Memory, and Hard Drive stay green, but
the hard drive and Memory aren't graphing. If I run a
manual scan for devices, they are all detected, and
show as "UP" in their status. Also, if I manually run
the poller on the host or a particular interface, they
will register as up too and go green, but the next
time the poller runs automatically, they say down
again.

That's a php-mysql issue, not a JFFNMS issue; though of course it
does cause problems for it.

email alerts?

Hi, I just installed jffnms and was wondering about email alerts on certain events.

I followed the instructions found here: http://jffnms.org/docs/triggers.html#id6

I pulled the plug on a system monitored by jffnms... I saw the alarm in the hosts and events page, but I never recieved an email. I dont recall telling jffnms where the smtp server was... I assumed it looked at localhost by default. I have sendmail running on this machine, and I verified it can relay from local host using the mail command.

Is there something else I should be looking at?

thanks

alerts

Hi list,

I have several hosts being monitored and some have already experienced alerts for the interface protocol being down. I was wondering how to do the following:

- how do I clear the alerts? When I look at Hosts & Events, I see the affected machines in red. The machines are all fine, the downages were because of reboots, reconfigs, etc. Even those these machines are all doing ok, the red alert persists. When I look at the Alarm Editor, I see the duration for the alarm as: 2006-06-30 22:30:32 0000-00-00 00:00:00. So far, the only way I can clear them is to change the duration end time. Is there another way of clearing these alerts? Shouldn't they disappear once the device is polled again and found up?

- on Nagios, we have alerts sent out when a host goes down... and when the host comes back up, a 'host is back up' message goes out. Is there any way to have progressive alerts like that with jffnms?

many thanks

-mike

Re: email alerts?

Mike,
go to Administration -> Users and Customers -> Users

From drop down menu Action at selected user, admin etc., select View user profile

Then at the bottom side of the screen select Edit button at eMail row and assign email adress you wish alerts be sent to.

That should be enough :-)

Check also Triggers Users

Cisco Dialer interface problem

Hi,

I have lots of cisco 1812's set up in JFFNMS and all of them are
having it's dialer1 interface reported as 'down' however the interface
is defenatly up and traffic is shown on the graphs.

Does anyone have a clue on what's going on, and how can I get rid of
the false alarm?

JFF Version is 0.8.2, running on debian SID, kernel 2.8.16-SMP.

Thanks,
Alex

we have the same problem

its to do with the cisco changing the snmp interface id everytime the
the interface resets :(

would like a work around for this but not had a chance to think about it
  properly yet.

Problems logging in - Forbidden

Hi! I'm having problems logging in. Just installed jffnms, followed  the installation instructions on www.jffnms.org/jffnms/INSTALL, i can reach  the Apache welcome page, but when i add /jffnms in the browser i get a message of:

"403 Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /jffnms on this server.

Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request."

Obviously, it's a permission problem, but i do not know where else to give permissions as i followed the installation guide and did everything alright (i guess...). By the way, i'm working as root.

Apreciated some instructions!

Thank you.

Re: Cisco Dialer interface problem

You could try "snmp-server ifindex persist", it may not be implemented
in your hardware/software, and may not stop the interface renumbering on
a stop/start, but it does fix the problem of Cisco devices renumbering
themselves on a reboot.

Re: Problems logging in - Forbidden

If you are running Fedora/RedHat, disable SELinux, reboot.

After than do:

# chown -R jffnms:jffnms /opt/jffnms

And verify you added apache to the jffnms group.
