Fwd: [JIRA] Resolved: (JM-288) Don't allow multiple unlimited roster auth requests

I think we need to fix this one. Jive is a pretty popular server.
The URL below has all the history you'll need.

Thanks Gaston for running this one down. We'll put it in our database
to fix soon.

Re: Re: windows builds

CVS vanilla builds (like mblsha, but daily), and Nolan's Arch builds
(daily too) are now both running on a scheduled task.

IceRAM: Can you update the forum post so that's is a bit clearer that
I'm doing two sets of builds, and not CVS with the MUC patches applied
:-)

I ran out of disk space this evening (50MB), so I un-clicked limit
space. The account says it has a 100MB limit on it, but I can
probably get that disabled too, otherwise I'll just have to limit the
page to 2 successfully builds each or something.

What happened to not saving the login password?

In current CVS, there is no option to save (or not) the jabber login
password, and even if you don't fill it in, it saves it the next time
you enter it to log in. Unless this has been fixed very very recently.

Let's do that. Can you build me a debug copy? Just tell me where to
put the source and these pdb files and I should be able to figure out
the rest.

You overestimate my patience for development. :p

Re-inserting a quote which was removed and required for context:

> Why is that ?

Because now, everyone who wants to fetch vCards is going to get slammed with
many kilobytes of photo data from iChat users... which is made 50 times worse
if you have 50 users online who were all encouraged to put photos in there by
iChat. :-)

> It only fetches it when the hash changed.

Actually, iChat only seems to hash the photo. People seem to be
forgetting that
vCards have dozens of other, more useful fields which we might want
updated too.

It sounds like that report describes a bug already fixed on Jive's end.

As it says: "The XMPP spec recommends that the server not send the auth
request
if it's already been accepted." Therefore it's the job of the server... and
presumably they're fixing it.

Yep, that's pretty much exactly how JEP-0084 works.

To implement JEP-0084 in a transport would be interesting indeed. I
suspect it
would mean making each user a pubsub entity, like PSA was describing in a
weblog a while back. That way the transport wouldn't actually need to use a
separate pubsub server at all, it could just do the broadcasting from within
itself and even subscribe to users on the Jabber side for shunting
avatars back
to the other protocol.

I wish it would just go to Draft already so that people would stop
talking about
the iChar avatar protocol and start implementing something scaleable.

Yeah, it would be good if the version is another thing which is only fetched
once you start hovering over the person you're interested in.

I wonder if that's a feature request waiting to happen... I've started
to notice
the karma blowout on login so much lately that I actually culled people
from my
roster to reduce the impact.

Well, if we have to use a legacy protocol, it had better be either iChat's
protocol or JEP-0008, otherwise we're going to have _three_ legacy
protocols in
use by the time the scaleable one moves into Draft.
