Shared Roster / Groups with External Authentication: Possible?

Esteemed list members,

I have been wracking my brain and reading everything I can to
establish whether I can accomplish the following using ejabberd:

1) Everyone in a shared roster (ie: all users of my website can see
each other through an xmpp client)
2) Roster groups pre-set through the web interface

I am authenticating users against my web application, which is a
community site with interest groups and a group of moderators. I use
an external auth script to do this.

I have tried setting up roster groups through the web interface,
specifically, I've tried to add all the moderator usernames to a
"mods" group. When I log in via iChat or Adium as one of these users I
expect to see a list of the other users; I don't see any contacts.

I understand that ejabberd would need to have a list of "all users"
specified in order to be able to feed them as a roster to others. I've
seen references to doing this for LDAP using ejabberdctl. Is there a
way to accomplish the same for my web app's user list?

Here is the vhost configuration from ejabberd.cfg:

{acl, admin, {user, "grubby", "chat.xemzi.com"}}.
{access, configure, [{allow, admin}]}.
{acl, xemzi, {server, "chat.xemzi.com"}}.
{acl, xemzi, {server, "muc.chat.xemzi.com"}}.
{acl, xemzi_admin, {user, "grubby", "chat.xemzi.com"}}.

Set this in ejabberd.cfg
  {extauth_cache, 0}.
and ejabberd will take note of which accounts are accepted by your
extautj script.

Those accounts will be included in shared roster groups that have member <at> all <at>

Ah, this is easy: add this to ejabberd.cfg
{acl, blocked, {user_regexp, "[a-z]"}}.

> disable mucs creation with none English letters .

ejabberd doesn't provide any option to restrict the room names.

This can't be configured in ejabberd.
You can configure this in a firewall.

(no subject)

Hi

Am running Ejabberd 2.1.10 on Debian 5

Am looking for a web-based registration system.

As well am looking for a way to request additional information when a
user is creating an account i.e. e-mail address instead of just
username and password.

Finally am looking for a password recovery system for my users, so
that users that forget their passwords can have their passwords
e-mailed to the e-mail address they entered during account
registration.

Kind regards

ejabberd doesn't implement this in mod_register, and I am not aware of
any module or patch that provides this feature.

I wrote this module for ejabberd five years ago as an experiment,
but it seems nobody ever used it, and obviously it doesn't work in recent
ejabberd versions.

From that page: "This feature requires internal authentication. If you
use external authentication, LDAP... then adding <at> all <at> to a shared
roster group will do nothing."

Which is why I'm asking if there is any way at all to do shared roster
groups with external authentication. In your previous email you said
that <at> all <at> would in fact work, in contradiction of the above linked
page. I've followed those instructions and I'm not getting any kind of
shared roster on iChat or Adium. This is sort of why I'm asking what I
should expect to see on the client end if it was working: is there
anything special I need to do to see the shared contacts from the
server? I'm not seeing anyone show up in my buddy list.

Thanks again for your time, and please excuse my confusion - I think I
may be incorrectly conflating "group" and "group chat" which is why
I'm asking if I need to make my client join a "group chat" in order to
see the shared contacts.
