problem connecting to ietf.xmpp.org (group chat)

Hi,

Our clients could not connect to ietf.xmpp.org. The logs are
included below. I saw Randy's thread about non-default port
and SRV lookup problem, and had already applied the patch
in that thread ("s2s conf issues" at 3/7/2005).

Note that there's an "invalid" INFO entry below. Any idea how
to proceed?

You didn't specify ejabberd, erlang and operating system versions you're running.
But if it's erlang R10b then you should probably do the following:

1) create file /etc/ejabberd/inetrc and put the following line into it:
{file, resolv, "/etc/resolv.conf"}.

2) add the following options to ejabberd command line:
-kernel inetrc \"/etc/ejabberd/inetrc\"

After that ejabberd should properly resolve SRV records and connect to unusual
ports like 6269 at ietf.xmpp.org.

I have the same problem as Yu-Shun on FreeBSD-5.4-STABLE with  
ejabberd-0.9.1 and erlang-r10b6_1,1, having done the above steps.

Any further clues?

Hm, looks ok, try to run "ets:tab2list(inet_db)." using
% erl -sname test -kernel inetrc \"/etc/ejabberd/inetrc\"

and also try to run
inet_res:getbyname("_xmpp-server._tcp.ietf.xmpp.org", srv).

Advice regarding system wide JID changes

Hello folks!  I have an ejabberd 0.7.5 running very well and have about
100 users chatting up a storm.  Initially I set the Host Name to
SERVER.DOM.DOM.COM and so all the JID's had to be in the form of
USER <at> SERVER.DOM.DOM.COM which is not all that pretty or end-user
friendly.  After building a test server, I then realized that all I
needed was SERVER since I am only hosting this service within our
corporate DMZ.
Is there any way for me to migrate all of the existing JID's from the
longer format to the shorter format?  I tried just changing the
/etc/ejabberd/ejabberd.cfg to the short name, but succeded only in
cleaning out all of my users' rosters!

Updates and new versions

Hello
I've got 2 suggestions:
1. The $DESTDIR bug is still not fixed - please correct it. Can't 
install with prefix normally without it.
2. There's no official guide for updating ejabberd. There is 
installation guide, but no things like: this option dissapeared from 
cfg, this is new, this setting should be checked... That kind of things 
would help with checking if new cfg is correct and can be safely copied 
from previous version.

See doc/release_notes files; at least at the end of the one for 0.9 contains 
some updating information. Though, it might be also a good idea to add this 
information also somewhere on the website.

xmpp.org is using (6269):
