A while back we talked about the possibility of building a site like
http://www.mailradar.com/ but for XMPP. Florian Thiessen and I just had
a chat about that, so I figured I'd try to restart the conversation.
Perhaps we can have a groupchat about it soon? I propose to make this
(and other matters related to network operations) the topic of our next
"Monthly XMPP Meeting":

Date: Tuesday, June 9, 2009
Time: 19:00 UTC (check your local time!)
Place: xmpp:operators <at> conference.jabber.org
Reminders: http://xmpp.org/xsf/XSF.ics

If we have some discussion on this list before then, I will create an
agenda for the meeting.

Thanks!

That's SASL EXTERNAL. Typically it is used with a digital certificate
presented during TLS negotiation.

So what you need is some kind of SSO (Single Sign On) solution. Using OpenID from a thick Jabber client would
probably be *very* difficult (because it's intimately tied to the browser). It may be possible from your
side of things, however.

I haven't had the time to grep OpenID yet - but
this<http://www.windley.com/archives/2006/04/how_does_openid.shtml> came in pretty useful. You
will need to appropriate an OpenID implementation. This is a hashed out version of what would need to

updated XMPP services list

FYI, http://xmpp.org/services/ has been updated.

There are now two machine-readable files:

1. http://xmpp.org/services/services.xml -- this is the basic disco format.

2. http://xmpp.org/services/services.xml -- this is more complete data,
like the old http://www.jabber.org/full_servers.xml (including lat and
lon at the request of the Pidgin developers).

Enjoy!

Need an XMPP account? Just find one using our PubSub system. All you
need to get started is an XMPP account...

(Yes, I am kidding, a pubsub node for this kind of thing would indeed
be interesting at some point).

If you join the meeting next Tuesday, you can volunteer to help:

http://mail.jabber.org/pipermail/operators/2009-May/000583.html

We will talk about starting a site for XMPP admins, kind of like
http://www.mailradar.com/ but for IM.

Actually, it was an Adium developer (myself), not somebody from
Pidgin :)

Thanks for the re-implementation! Let's hope this one will last longer
than the one before it (or the one before that...).

I've already updated the URL and the parser in Adium, it will be part
of 1.4.
