Problem - read failed : Connection reset by peer

Hi,

I'm facing few problems. I'll list all of them serially.

Question 1) When i'm running "iperf -u -c <ip address> -i 1" , i'm getting read failed : connection reset by peer after sometime. Below is the detailed thing -

[ ID] Interval       Transfer     Bandwidth
[152]  0.0- 1.0 sec   129 KBytes  1.06 Mbits/sec
[152]  1.0- 2.0 sec   128 KBytes  1.05 Mbits/sec
[152]  2.0- 3.0 sec   126 KBytes  1.03 Mbits/sec
[152]  3.0- 4.0 sec   129 KBytes  1.06 Mbits/sec
[152]  4.0- 5.0 sec   128 KBytes  1.05 Mbits/sec
[152]  5.0- 6.0 sec   128 KBytes  1.05 Mbits/sec
[152]  6.0- 7.0 sec   128 KBytes  1.05 Mbits/sec
[152]  7.0- 8.0 sec   129 KBytes  1.06 Mbits/sec
[152]  8.0- 9.0 sec   128 KBytes  1.05 Mbits/sec
[152]  9.0-10.0 sec   128 KBytes  1.05 Mbits/sec
[152]  0.0-10.0 sec  1.25 MBytes  1.05 Mbits/sec
read failed: Connection reset by peer
Please tell me the reason I'm getting this error.

Question 2) When i'm just writing "iperf -c <ip address>" it is showing connection failed : connection refused. I really cannot understand that.

Regards,
Akshay

Re: Problem - read failed : Connection reset by peer

Hi!

It seems that you're not using iperf on the far end. Or are you?
Iperf is designed to be used in pairs: one host is passive (accepts connections and acts according to settings from the other end) and the other host is client which sends commands to server.

Q1 is using UDP which means client doesn't need any feedback from server. You can seemingly connect to server but you will never get any answer. The 'connection reset by peer' message might well origin from IP stack implementation and/or firewall which send diconnect message when there's no application to handle the incomming connection.

Q2 uses TCP which means that server needs to respond actively to incomming connection. If there's no iperf running at far end, you obviously can not make any usable connection there.

Peace! Mkx -- perl -e 'print $i=pack(c5,(41*2),sqrt(7056),(unpack(c,H)-2),oct(115),10);' -- echo 16i[q]sa[ln0=aln100%Pln100/snlbx]sbA0D4D465452snlb xq | dc BOFH excuse #81: Please excuse me, I have to circuit an AC line through my head to get this database working.

Re: Problem - read failed : Connection reset by peer

Hi,

I'm using both the server and the client. I've started the server and the server is listening on port 5001 (the default one). I'm iperf in pairs only. What do i need to make it working? :(

Re: Problem - read failed : Connection reset by peer

Hi,

Earlier i was using Windows 2003 server as my iperf server. Then i was getting that error. There was no firewall set.
Now, instead of that i'm using Windows 7 as my iperf server. It's working perfectly fine. Really cannot understand what the problem is. Does it work well on Windows 2003 server SP 2..??

Hi,

Does iperf work on windows 2003 server.? I'm running iperf server on windows 2003 server. It is showing connection failed : connection refused when i try to connect to the iperf server. The server's firewall is also off. What can be the other reasons for it.?
It works perfectly fine when i'm using 2 win 7 systems.

WIN32 - Daemon Problems

Hey Guys,

I am attempting to get iperf 1.7.0 running on a bunch of Windows server machines as a daemon. Now the problem I am running into is the daemon stopping for no reason within 2-5 minutes after it starting up. I can  run "iperf -s" in a command prompt no problem all day and it wont ever fail, however this requires me to have a user account constantly logged into the machine that I want to test.

Has anyone seen this before and/or does anyone have any resolution for this action? The daemon isn't crashing, or failing it just appears to be stopping itself constantly.

Thanks for any insight.
