GopherVR for X

Just uncovered what may be the only surviving version of GopherVR for Unix-based platforms, an Irix 5.3
version of GoperVR 0.2.

While there few Gopher+ servers,
I haven't seen any running GopherVR server.
Are there any?

Hello

You do not need a special serve to use GopherVR though I do have vague reco=
llections of being able to be able to define the placement of the items (=
or reading that you can, rather).

It's a small librarian world

Hey Cameron (and the whole list, as a sort of cc),

I work at the Carleton College library alongside Ann Zawistoski.
Recalling that librarians tend to know all the information protocols,
today I said as a sort of aside that I run one of the last Gopher
servers on the Internet. She said that a friend of hers named Cameron
runs another! So, yes-- I would be the mysterious Carleton College
student who keeps pinging you up. By the way, Floodgap seems to be
down right now.

Wow that's crazy. I am quite amazed at our small world.

I know one of your librarians, an Iris Jastram, also. We're both Twitter
freaks.

I know it went down sometime this morning, but I've been unable to go back
and restart it (my day job is actually as an MD and patients just gotta
be seen -- go figure). It should be up in an hour or two when I figure out
what hosed it. It's an old box and maybe something spitzed sparken.

pygopherd will not start

pygopherd crashes on startup with the error:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "bin/pygopherd", line 23, in <module>
    from pygopherd import *
ImportError: No module named pygopherd

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? It happens both on my
local WinXP box, and a remote Debian system (I was doing a single-user
install)

Thanks!
Kyevan

Ah, scratch that. I was being a blind idiot. Actually *setting it up*
helps, eh?

update on Gopher/Firefox

Firefox 3B3 still has Gopher support (I know 388195 said it would remain in
1.9 but I really don't trust Mozilla anymore, so I'm checking regularly).

There was a bug in 3B2 that prevented me from further development on
OverbiteFF that is now apparently solved in 3B3. Next thing to do is
reimplement the gopher directory rendering using a stream converter due to
some issues with the old DHTML approach. This will affect skinability
initially but this could be added in the future; it's just more code to add.
