Geomyidae-0.10 (formerly Gopherd_BSD)

Hey Gopherheads,
Thought I ought to let you know about this as Mr. Lohmann hasn't
posted anything. Geomyidae (formerly Gopherd_BSD) has had quite
a bit of work done on it the past several months and now has many
of the attributes of the full-feature gophers (ex. PYGopherd &
Bucktooth) without the scripting language dependencies (ex. Perl
& Python), making it useful for smaller systems.

Geomyidae now supports:
- CGI scripting w/ search support
- built-in http redirects
- logging w/ selectable log levels
- gopher menus via index.gph files
- directory listings (if no index.gph file present)
- configurable user, group, IP, port settings

Anyways, I've been helping test Geomyidae but it would be nice
to get more testers, so if you've got the time and inclination
point your browser at

http://www.r-36.net/gopher.php?u=/geomyidae.gph
 or
gopher://gopher.r-36.net/1/geomyidae.gph
(yes, he now has a gopher presence)

I'm also working on a Unix-style man page for Geomyidae and would
appreciate input from others, particularly experiences with setup,
scripting, logging, etc. Compiling issues should be sent to the
developer.

Is this a fork of the UMN gopherd tree, or completely new development?

Re: help with veronica

You are using the link type 1. Gophermaps use the link type 7 for
searches. So, change the 1 at the start of the line to 7.

For a full list of which numbers trigger which content types, see my page:

Re: how to mount a local veronica search

No need. Floodgap will automatically create a veronica search of your Gopher server for you. gopher://gopher.floodgap.com/1/v2

Admittedly, it's not a bad idea since periodically (like now) I have V-2
down for data massaging and the index might not be up to date with some of
the smaller sites it doesn't index as frequently. Running a local Veronica
can be useful in that case, especially if you have some CPU and disk to
burn.
