network problems with floodgap.com

Floodgap's upstream is wacked out and access to the network is presently
running at a crawl. I have no estimated time of repair for this.

RFC drafts

Persons seriously interested in giving input about how Gopher will be officially codified in the RFCs
should examine and respond to the authors of documents:

  draft-hoffman-gopher-uri-03.txt
  draft-murali-url-gopher.txt

Both of these documents are available on JumpJet (
gopher://home.jumpjet.info/11\Begin_Here\References ). These RFCs will be as important to the
Gopher community as RFC1436, and it is imperative that they be addressed while still in final draft stage.

Today's dummy: proxy? (fwd)

This was a rather amusing mail received today about the proxy. Name changed
to protect the clueless ;)

Subject: proxy?

Just a question. What exactly IS gopher and is it still up? I can't seem to
access even google.com thru it

   Well, it is laughable indeed.
BUT, how did I wish there really was a gopher.google.com active, maybe
running Veronica2 or some new gopher indexing and retrival engine!

By the way, at month's end I will no longer have an ADSL connenction
available and I will have to move my domain into some housing facility.
This means that gopher.route-add.net will be discontinued until I will
have again an ADSL connection or the possibility of housing the Gopher
server somewhere else. This is not possible, at the moment.
(Grumble)

Does anyone have GopherVR?

I still have not been contacted by anyone who may have GopherVR clients. I have personally tried to contact
administrators at Minnesota University about the BoomBox FTP server files being corrupted, but I have
not received any response from them either. If anyone has GopherVR, I desperately need a copy for
archiving on gopher://home.jumpjet.info/11\Begin_Here, so these files will not become lost forever. Thanks.

Re: Does anyone have GopherVR?

i may have it on one of my mac disks. hard to tell. i'd have to hook up
the mac and see if it was on one.

have you looked at one of the mac ftp sites? have you tried
ftp://cdrom.com? (i dunno if they're still up, but it seems like i got
it there once)

i'll look about.

I have the Mac version, that is not hard to get. I remember reading (on this list's archive) that someone from
UMN put it on some CVS server somewhere...

Re: Does anyone have GopherVR?

Thanks to everyone that replied. I already have the Macintosh version called "TurboGopherVR". The
versions that I lack are called "GopherVR". GopherVR was once available in the following UNIX flavors:
  AIX
  DEC Alpha
  Linux
  SGI Irix
  Sun Solaris (i386)
  Sun Solaris (sparc)
  Sun SunOS
