trapcollector 1.0

Dear all,

At URL http://bakacsin.ki.iif.hu/~kissg/pd/cricket/trapcollector
you can find a script that can be used to duplicate Cricket
data in real-time with low network and CPU usage.

Master Cricket runs 'collector' to gather data then passes it
by "copy-to" mechanism to an other host.
Here the 'trapcollector' daemon runs. It catches SNMP traps
from the master Cricket and loads received data to the slave's
RRD files.

Regards

Gabor

Re: trapcollector 1.0

Hello Kiss,

Please include in your README:
- an example configuration for the copy-to configuration on the master
Cricket collector.
- provide some metrics on how much additional processing time is taken
up by using copy-to
- explain in which cases it may be useful to use this

It is nice to see users contributing back to Cricket, great job.

Thank you,

Francois Mikus

Done.

I found no way to measure this. By naked eye I could not notice
any performace degradation on the master Cricket.
Slave Cricket stores collected data virtually the same time as the master.

Done.

getting error while compling the config files

Hello Sir,

Installed the latest version of cricket 1.0.5.Not able to compile the
configuration files. As i had issues in installing the cricket with a
new user added to the system. tried the installation as a root still
facing the same error.
here is a copy of the error prompted during the compile cmd

[root <at> sattish cricket]# ./compile
[06-Sep-2007 18:36:25 ] Log level changed from warn to info.
[06-Sep-2007 18:36:25 ] Starting compile: Cricket version 1.0.5
(2004-03-28)
Can't create /root/cricket-config/config.db.lock at ./compile line 82.
 Platform : Redhat linux

Can you please let me know what would be the workaround thanks
Sattish.

Review the install instructions to make sure you've followed them. I'd
really suggest not running cricket as root. WRT the error above, I'd
guess that you haven't set $gCricketHome properly, /root/cricket-config
directory doesn't exist or you have some unusual permissions on

Hello Marc,

Thanks for the response. Did a new installation and gave the right

when i try to collect the results got the below mentioned error

Any insights to the error pasted below.

RRDs.pm is a perl module that comes with rrdtool.

Did you install rrdtool? If not, do it.

If yes, make sure it is installed properly. Perl looks in the
directories set up in the <at> INC array. Did your rrdtool install in any
of those paths or another?

Cricket Not Displaying HTML Summaries

Hi

I created some new entries in Cricket 1.0.5, and the RRD files that
were created are version 3. Cricket seems to be saving the data
properly, but the summaries are not being displayed properly on the

corresponding cricket html pages. I think due to getDSCurrentValue
not returning an actual value. Is this a known issue? Has anyone
else seen this problem? This is not a fatal error on Cricket's part,
but a major annoyance. Does anyone have a patch for getDSCurrentValue

to work across RRD versions?

Thanks,

Garwin

I have noticed the same behavior on my cricket box (debian 4.0) but
haven't had time to track it down yet

Re: Cricket Not Displaying HTML Summaries

This is my crazy ugly, but working hack. Your mileage may vary.

Looking at it now, the my($value) line I left in might be able to be
removed, but it works enough for me, so I won't investigate any more.
:) It's probably worth noting that the 300 is a magic number,
corresponding to the normal polling interval 300 seconds aka 5
minutes.

Sorry it could be a prettier hack,
Thomas
