Sounds

So far I'm digging CenterIM.  Great work.  I don't hear sounds under either setting, "sound card" or "speaker".  Here's my environment:

uname -a
Darwin breath.local 9.4.0 Darwin Kernel Version 9.4.0: Mon Jun  9 19:30:53 PDT 2008; root:xnu-1228.5.20~1/RELEASE_I386 i386 i386 MacBookPro1,2 Darwin

gcc --version
i686-apple-darwin9-gcc-4.0.1 (GCC) 4.0.1 (Apple Inc. build 5484)
Copyright (C) 2005 Free Software Foundation, Inc.

centerim-4.22.5

I didn't see anything about how to enable sounds beyond what I tried in the man page or FAQ.  Please feel free to direct me to documentation I've overlooked.

Hello Ken.

I don't have a Mac nearby to poke around, so I don't know if your
problem can be solved in a similar way... But on my x86 linux box I have
set the setting to "speaker" and I need the pcspkr kernel module loaded
before I get any sound (three beeps).

Maybe you have a similar setting somewhere on your Mac? Also, maybe you
should assign a sound to a certain event (Terminal.app alert or
something) before you get some sound?

If you use shell completion (for example: at a shell prompt, type "ls
<TAB><TAB>", do you get sound? AFAIK, this uses the same sound mechanism
as CI.

I can't help you with the "sound card" setting though. Maybe it will be
informative to read through the source to see how this generates sound.

Good luck,
Sven

Re: Sounds

Thank you for the tip.  I turned sounds on in my terminal window and I get sound with the "speaker" setting.  I guess I was expecting something like finch's method of using an arbitrary command line and was puzzled when I didn't find out how to set which sound to play.  For now this will do just fine.

Re: Sounds

Hello Ken,

I can't speak for the Mac version but assuming it's the same as the
Gentoo/Linux version you'll want to check out the file ~/.centerim/sounds. In
that file you can set the command used to play sounds for different events. (If
I remember correctly it defaults to "play" when using the sound card setting)

Thanks.

Re: Sounds

This is perfect.  Thanks for all the responses.  I'm able to turn off terminal sounds and use a command line utility to play an arbitrary sound.  This has the added benefit of playing the sound when screen is focused on another window.  I'm going to like CenterIM.

Contact list - groping problem

Hello all,

I am using centerim 4.22.5 and I have the problem with the contact
list since the version 4.22.3.

Contacts previously added in older versions and moved into groups are
ok. But the contacts added in the newest versions causing me the
problem.

Once I move them into any group, it is fine, and they are displayed
within the goup. But it changes once I restart centerim. After that
all those newly added contacts are displayed in the group General.

Anybody has an idea why?

Thanks

Kind regards

Hi Rado Hrabcak,

Hmmm, would you mind testing out the latest mob shot? I'm not sure, but i
think that problem has been fixed lately.
