Re: MSN contact problems

Does the lack of a reply mean that noone else is having these problems
or that people have given up helping each other out? ;-)

As mentioned in another email I run RedHat 8 and CVS as of 27 Jun but
had the problem with last realease version as well.

PS: Is there a way I can sync my contacts between centericq and the msn
server?

TIA
Horst

Microsoft changed the authenication system to a closed one and therefore the
only way that it can be added is to reverse engineer the MSN client which
may lead to legal problems.

use aliases instead of screen names

is it possible (if so, how) to setup and use aliases instead of screen
names (such as what can be done in gaim)?

Multi-chat, frames

Two simple questions from a new user: First, is it possible to chat
with multiple users in the same window (MSN)? Apparently someone
invited me to such chat with other 2 friends and i kept reading what
each one said in their own window separately, and i had to click on
'multi' and choose their names everytime i wanted to post. I didn't
find anything in the docs about this.

Second, I keep getting weird characters in the frames; i guess this is
due to a bad terminal configuration? I'm using the linux console.
Thanks,
koro

If you mean local aliases, hit 'rename' (r?) and the name you assign
should stick even if they change their nick on their end.

[error] centericq: notificationserver.cpp:628:

Hello!

I'm using centericq 4.20.0 under a "screen" session in a Gentoo box
and got this error:

centericq: notificationserver.cpp:628: void
MSN::NotificationServerConnection::callback_SyncData(std::vector<std::string,
std::allocator<std::string> >&, int, void*): Assertion `connectionStatus
== NS_SYNCHRONISING' failed.
Aborted

felix <at> claxon ~ $ centericq --version
centericq 4.20.0
Written by Konstantin Klyagin.
Built-in protocols are: icq yahoo msn aim jab

I was using centericq 4.20.0 in a Debian box without problems except a
SIGSEGV on a large screen resize [But that was my memory]. This is the
first time I saw an error like this.

I don't know how to reproduce that because I did "screen -r" and saw the
error on the resumed screen.

Félix

Cleaning log/printbuf output redundancy + fixing aim inconsistency

`name += " (" + c->getdispnick() + ")";` in imlogger.cc (occurs twice) could
be wrapped in a check to compare the two strings and only executed when that
is the case. It would reduce output from
" + 12:20 Mirror176 (Mirror176) changed status from Away to Online"
to
" + 12:20 Mirror176 changed status from Away to Online"
This would help at least on the aim protocol (should the test only be ran on
certain protocols to reduce string processing for those who don't gain from
it (such as maybe a case statement)?
It would be more appropriate to use a noncapatalized nonspaced form of the
names for aim for record keeping. otherwise mirror176, Mirror176, and Mi rr
or 176 are treated as 3 different names and lead to 3 different logs, buddy
list entries, etc. Should one of the two strings in the previousely mentioned
code reflect the lowercase nonspaced name while the other be the name thin
formatting? If so, the equivilancy check does not have much value.
I will see if I can come up with some of the aim patches and will submit what
I come up with if appreciated, but im sure I will run into more questions and
may not go about it in the preferred way (in which case I would appreciate
being told so rather than having my less than perfect patches accepted).

Several other questions:
Why is there the " + " in front of every line? Is there a multi line output
setting that I have been missing?
Why are all status changes uppercase, with 'went online' still being
lowercase? Is there a preference of one use or the other? All messages that
start a line start it lowercase.
Is there any desire to reduce output further to make more fit in the box (or
elsewhere) for those of us who do have 80char wide screens?

(forw) [SECURITY] [DSA 754-1] New centericq packages fix insecure temporary file creation

Hi, all!

I noticed that Debian released an security advisory for centericq.
This apparantly applies to centericq 4.20.0 and earlier.

I will also include the fix as found in the fixed source packages.

Regards
David Riebenbauer

The fix is pretty ugly. I solved the problem by adding two more
lines of code. Check out the latest CVS source.
