installed cacti, but no option to create bandwidth graph?

Hi,

I installed Cacti on my CentOS 4.4 machine using these (very good)
instructions:
http://blogs.kranich.org/karl/2006/09/14/installing-cacti-on-centos-with-yum/

Unfortunately I can't find a way to create a graph that shows
bandwidth transfer, which is what I really need. When I click the
link to create a new graph, the choices are:

(Select a graph type to create)
option value='18'>Cisco - CPU Usage</option>
<option value='28'>Host MIB - Logged in Users</option>
<option value='29'>Host MIB - Processes</option>
<option value='12'>Linux - Memory Usage</option>
<option value='16'>Netware - File System Activity</option>
<option value='14'>Netware - File System Cache</option>
<option value='17'>Netware - Logged In Users</option>
<option value='30'>Netware - Open Files</option>
<option value='34'>SNMP - Generic OID Template</option>
<option value='4'>ucd/net - CPU Usage</option>
<option value='11'>ucd/net - Load Average</option>
<option value='13'>ucd/net - Memory Usage</option>
<option value='9'>Unix - Load Average</option>
<option value='10'>Unix - Logged in Users</option>
<option value='7'>Unix - Ping Latency</option>
<option value='8'>Unix - Processes</option>

but I don't see anything that corresponds to bandwidth. I've looked
everywhere else but this seems to be the only place to create a new

on 'Create Graphs' page, nothing listed under 'Data Query'

I'm trying to go through the long way of creating a bandwidth graph, but
the contents of this page of the docs:
http://docs.cacti.net/node/137
do not match what I'm seeing in my cacti interface.

First the docs said to create a device, and for demonstration purposes they
created a router device. I don't know about the routers that this machine
is connected to (I'm connected via SSH to a rented dedicated machine) so I
just created a "second localhost" device, using the "ucd/net SNMP
host". (Will the rest of the steps still work if I do that?) Then I tried
to follow the steps at:
http://docs.cacti.net/node/137
where it says, go to the page for "Create Graphs for this Host". However,
in the docs, it shows 4 entries listed in the "Data Query" box. On my
interface, in the "Data Query" box it only says:
"This data query returned 0 rows, perhaps there was a problem executing
this data query. You can run this data query in debug mode to get more
information."

When I click the words "run this data query in debug mode", it loads the
information page for this device again, with this new box:

Data Query Debug Information
+ Running data query [2].
+ Found type = '3' [snmp query].
+ Found data query XML file at
'/var/www/cacti/resource/snmp_queries/net-snmp_disk.xml'
+ XML file parsed ok.
+ Executing SNMP walk for list of indexes <at> '.1.3.6.1.4.1.2021.9.1.1'
+ No SNMP data returned

cmd.php running out of memory

Hi,
I'm using cacti 0.8.6j with mostly default settings(using
cmd.php). I have found that cmd.php seems to be running out of memory.
I found the following webpage (http://cacti.net/cactid_info.php) and did
as suggested and poller.php returns with a time of about 426seconds and
usually runs out of memory.

Out of memory (Needed 3600324 bytes)
12/03/2007 12:20:50 PM - SYSTEM STATS: Time:585.1627 Method:cmd.php
Processes:1 Threads:N/A Hosts:37 HostsPerProcess:37 DataSources:1041
RRDsProcessed:3038

I am running on RHEL5 - kernel 2.6.18-53 - php 5.1.6 - 2GB of RAM.

A top while "php poller.php" is running usually looks like this:

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+
COMMAND
26047 root 15 0 1171m 1.8g 5464 S 8 87.0
0:16.38 php

Anyone experience anything like this??? I've had this same setup working
before.

Re: cmd.php running out of memory

I had a similar issue. My poller_output table in the cacti database had
grown to be huge (like, hundreds of thousands of records), due to a custom
script that got out of control. Truncating that table and rerunning poller
seemed to do the trick for me

Re: cmd.php running out of memory

This was exactly what the problem was. Once I emptied out the table (sql
truncate) it all works as you said. Thanks for the pointer Melvin.

Discovery Template Change (sysdescr to SysName)

In the template area I would like to change the Filter from sysdescr to
SysName.
Our Customers Canopy radios all have a sysName like so.
Smith_Joe_MDKE001

MDKE001 is the location of the access point they feed off of. I also
have my graph tree built in the same way.

I would like to sort by that rather then the sysdescr that is not that
much help to what I am trying to do.

I have tried a few different ways but to no avail. I have changed the
tables in the database and the discovery_temp file but that didn't
work.

A hand would be great, I have been working on this most of the day and
am getting no place.

Please someone help...

Thanks
Tim

will pay $100 to anyone who gets cacti working

I will give $100 by PayPal or a check in the mail to the first person who
tells me what to do to get cacti working on my machine. E-mail me off-list
to let me know if you can help via MSN Messenger or AIM or Yahoo
Messenger. By "working" I mean the end result is a graph showing bandwidth
transferred over a given date range.

I've spent two months visiting every free source of help, going to every
forum and list I could find, and I did everything that anyone told me to,
and it's still not working. Well, that's life. Written documentation is
usually aimed at experts, and I didn't expect anyone to drop everything and
help me for free. So, if you're the first person to respond with the
answer, you'll average a pretty good hourly rate for those few minutes to
set it up :)

If it's anything like other problems that I've run into with Linux, Perl,
and other free software, the solution is probably just one or two commands
that I need to type in order to get it working. The problem as I left it
was that "snmpwalk" was reporting no output:
[root <at> server1 ~]# snmpwalk -c public -v 1 127.0.0.1 interface
[root <at> server1 ~]#
which probably has something to do with the snmp agent.

When I've got the answer I can re-post it to the list or as a comment in
the online docs if anyone wants.
