When you get this error message it usually means that you already have a
bnr3.exe process running. Open the Windows Task Manager, go to the
Processes tab and look for a bnr3.exe process. If it's there then kill
it and BNR3 should start properly.

When you created your want filters, you should have noticed a checkbox
labelled "Auto mark for download" at the top right of the window.
Check this option and it should automatically queue the wanted
articles without doing anything.

Re: Re: How to add messages marked "wanted" to download Queue automatically?

Thanks for your reply!

I checked " Auto mark for download", but NBR just mark
them "wanted". I still need add them to queue
manually. Maybe something wrong about my setting, not
sure. Anyway, it works now -- I can easily add them.
That's enough :)

BNR 2 does have DB corruption problems, BNR 3 does not, well I dont see
it.

With the standard setup BNR 3 can be a bit slow but many people dont read
my (and others) posts on setting up the SqLite Page file to your
computer/memory sizes I find that the ones I use for the bigger groups (DB
stays at around 750 MB) are better set at ...

sqlite msgdb.bnr "pragma default_cache_size=70000;"

That is with a quick'ish 2 GHz CPU and 2 GB RAM no RAID on IDE drives and
the smaller ones at about 45~50000, I have posted the .bat files used to
set and re-set the DB before, if wanted I can do again.

Any DB used for a long time will have problems, but I can run fine for
over a year with it running most of the time doing > 15 GB a day.

RE: Questions From a Newbie

Alt.binaries.nl if memory serves me correct is a newsgroup itself, not a
newsgroup server. A newsgroup server would be something like
news.easynews.com, www.newshosting.com, etc. You should check with your ISP
to find out what the address of their newsgroup server is (or if they even
have one) or look into purchasing access to a newsgroup server (such as the
pair I mentioned above). Once you have the server information, that's what
you put into the server setup in BNR, and then locate the newsgroup you are
interested in via the newsgroup tab (after connecting to the server at least
once to download the entire group list).

Header download question

Sometimes when I am downloading headers, I have it set to download
5,000 headers at a time, max. This works ok. But, near the end of the
header download BNR3 will start to download 1 of 1 headers, this can go
on for hours sometimes (thousands of headers). I have to pause the
queue and delete the group so bnr will go on to the next group. How
can I eliminate this "1 of 1" header download and keep it at x,xxx of
5,000? And, as a corrolary, does bnr load headers from the top down
(i.e., newest first) or oldest first? If it loads top down, killing
the header download when it starts to go "1 of 1" won't matter much.
I'll just have to actively watch bnr.
